I received no less than 10 DVDs in the 'real' mail today, and to balance it, a self-assessment tax form!  :(

Hi All

I share your frustration with the current idnet.com email situation and apologise for the reduced level of performance. I hope you can understand that we had to pick the best available candidate for temporary replacement server at short notice in order to keep the mail service up and at least functional. Other candidate servers would have required work to move their 'day-job' functions elsewhere to make room for mail. Clunker happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and got the job.

I'm delighted that we managed to extract the mail spool from Trevor - so no mail has been lost at all.

We're still working at repairing Trevor to bring him back into service at full speed and performance (which will include proper spam filtering). We'll need to take the idnet.com service off-line for a period when the time comes in order to transfer the service from Clunker to Trevor. This is nescessary in order to ensure that mail is sent to one and not both servers. Will let you know when that is scheduled.

Regards
Simon

Thanks Simon,

It means a hell of a lot when we are kept informed of events, and pre-warned when downtime is expected, which takes a lot of the heat out of the situation.  It's also superb that you have managed to save the data on the mail server, as concerns over lost emails may now be alleviated.

Keep up the good work, and best of luck with getting Trevor back on his feet!  :)
Simon.

Congratulations, Simon, that's a heck of an achievement. :)

I'm sure we'd all rather see it done right than done quick'n'dirty. :)

Trevor lives! I am pleased to report that we have successfuly re-built the disk array. Next we will need to transfer the mail services back over from Clunker.

Cheers

Your ability to bang your head against reality in the hope that reality will crack first is impressive, but futile!

Indeed, agreed.

The updates on information are very welcome, as is the fact that things are returning to normal.

I've now had six - but a lot of that is down to the extra accounts I set up when I was testing the service. :)

Is there still an email server problem? I only joined IDNet on Friday, got an email confirming that it was active, but since then I haven't been able to login to it. "login failed" every time I try it via both webmail and outlook express.

Rik

Some new customers seem to be having problems, see the thread here.

If you are having password problems, there is little we can do in open forum to help, so I would suggest a call to support in the morning. I have alerted them to the issue.

Is your ADSL connection OK?
