Anything and everything that I post on here is purely my opinion, it ain't going to change the world, you are under no obligation to agree with me, it is purely my expressed opinion.

No, I did not get it, or anything else, from Fiona Groves on E Bay  ;D

It was from nighen2003 and you would think I overpaid for it, but it was still in it's sealed box.

I worried that the 2700HGV would not make any usable difference to my AdslMax connection, but the facts speak for themselves.

Yesterday with a BT2100 my BRAS profile was 3000, today with the 2700 it has jumped to 4000 ;D ;D

Yesterday's speedtest on 2100........

Today's , all new, all shiny 2700.............

Go on, you know you deserve one >:D

You can't ask for more than that, can you. OK, you can ask, but you probably won't get. :)

Well, the bRAS profile isn't actually to do with the router directly; you are assigned a bRAS profile for the sync rate, and it can take 3 days for this to actually be updated to match your sync rate. It's entirely possible, however, that the 2Wire gave you better sync, which in turn gave you a higher bRAS profile.

Yes that is what happens, I worded it badly perhaps.

Since BT introduced Adaptive Max Logic the bRas profile is much more dynamic.

According to Kitz your profile changes :-

   * Decreases in sync speed will still reflect in the IP profile within 75 mins.
    * Increases in sync speed will depend on the percentage of the increase and will vary between a few hours and up to 5 days.

A large % increase in sync speed should see the IP profile rise within 4-6 hours, whilst a small increase may take up to 5 days before the IP profile reflects the change. BT estimates that under "Adaptive Max Logic" more than 60% of increases will now occur before they would on the old 3 day system.

So a 1meg change in sync rate is enough to get the fast re-profiling i have seen today.

Thanks for posting that, kinmel. I haven't seen that page since it's been updated, so it's interested to read how the system works these days.

The bit about BT's Actuate Report is very interesting. One thing I'd love is to be able to see my profile in the IDNet control panel. If Entanet do it, it must be possible. Saying that, I don't expect my profile to change very often now I've got a 2Wire, but even so, it would be good.

I've seen this guy bidding on quite a few 2700hgv's, been making offers on routers from the above seller as well. Obviously buys them in and sells on for a small profit. Nothing wrong with that ;D
Huge leap in sync. Excellent.

There's no place like 127.0.0.1

We have asked, it's not been forthcoming yet.

It's not the end of the world, but if would save using the infuriating BT speed tester. For example, my profile was reset yesterday so I've got a different sync, and the BT tester is always busy, so (other than doing speed tests) it's difficult to see when my profile has updated.

Rik

I agree. I think it would be very useful. Given the demands on the BT speed test, I've never understood why they don't make the profile available separately. One day... :)

Won a 2700HGV on ebay earlier today, paid a bit over the odds (£30inc post) as I was getting fed up waiting, still seems cheap to me for a new wireless router/modem. Hoping the wireless is alot better than it is on my current router.

While your talking about profiles I have a question, The highest profile is 7150 right? Why is it then called "up to 8mb" if its clearly only "up to 7.15mb"? :P

Rik

Because the sync speed is up to 8Mbps, I guess. In the same way, the old fixed speed services were sold at sync speed, not data rate.

Unusually, IDNet do make it clear on their website, "Actual broadband download speeds can vary from below 2 Mbps during peak times, up to a maximum of 7.15 Mbps."

Reading through this and other threads, the 2700HGV seems to make a decent difference for most users !!

Anyone got a link to a list of features it supports ??  VPN, Port forwarding etc !!

I'm currently using a draytek 2600 plus and am looking to change.. I'm quite a distance from the exchange and my line has issues (BT Openreach called this morning 2500+ errors in 5 minutes they think it could be an underground issue - they hope to sort it soon)

Would it be worth trying a 2700HVG ?? Any issues or concerns between the older single SSID or newer dual SSID versions ??

Thanks

Rik

Sam seems to have found some issues with port forwarding, I'm not aware of anyone using it for VPN (there will now be a rush of people proving me wrong ;)). In terms of performance, there seems little practical difference.

I'd like to know more about the port forwarding issue...  Can you point me to sam's posts ??

I presume it does VPN pass through, not termination..

Lance

I've used port forwarding (for torrent software) with any problems.

EvilPC

Any issues with buying a 2700hgv from Fiona Groves via ebay ??? or DigiDave_ie ??

Thanks

Lance

Several people on here alone have had dud routers from Digidave - he is to be avoided.

I think Fiona has had glowing reports to date.

Thanks..

I can get a 2700HGV model 4201-003003-006  but I don't know if this is a good version or not !!

Fiona has some in... DO I risk it !!??

Rik

I don't know is the short answer. The long answer is that my model number starts 2701...
