BBC Radio Multicast

Hi,

I am trying to connect to the new BBC Radio Multicast video feed test.

Its only available to certain ISP's, and IDNET is one of them, but they mention if you can not connect you should contact the ISP to make sure they have enabled it their end..

When I try to connect it just tells me Multicast feeds are not activate on this IP, so... can anyone at IDNet either flip your little switch, or let me know if I need to apply with you to have it work?

It should be active for everyone. I wonder if you haven't got IGMP enabled on your router?

It doesn't work for me, it just throws up a general error.. . eventually.

How do you enable IGMP then?

When I had my previous router, it used to work fine on me. You should just have to have a IGMP capable/enabled router.

I recall though that if you are using Windows XP you may need to change something in the registry - I'll see if I can find that and post a link.

I have the usual netgear .. with a G at the end.. LOL.  I can't remember the numbers... I'll look it up.

The Netgear DG834G doesn't support multicasting at all, although a fix is apparently in the works.

Seriously, I do not think that a fix is imminent for the DG834G series, this info gleaned from writings on netgear forums some months back. Note that I'm not knocking the 834 series, fine stable routers but definitely not fit for multicast I'm afraid.

Come to think of it, I don't suppose it matters much to me.  I get the idea that I want all these things, then stop and ask myself why?  what use it it to me?  I listen to the radio live either via the Denon tuner over there or via DigiTV on computer.  Only occasionally do I miss something and listen to it via the BBC website.  Usually it's only the Archers  and I don't think it's necessary to have new technology for that.

I've never quite seen the use for downloading, I must confess, Ann. I have other technologies which are custom made for the job - plus a relatively slow line - so why bother. Though I am a Luddite at heart.
