OK, who's going to volunteer to do the good video about IDNet???

Surely, IDNet is the only choice!   ;)

Rik

True enough. :) I notice over on ThinkBroadband that, increasingly, when people make a recommendation for good service, good support or dealing with problem lines, IDNet gets a mention - and this is from non-customers.

It's a shame he didn't watch this video before he chose "Toucan" for his ISP!!!

There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Reminds me of a post on another forum recently, asking for advice on a PC supplier after the machine had been ordered!

TheMonkey

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and haven't even signed up to IDNET yet but wanted to log on and tell you i can't wait to sign up for a company that actually looks like they take broadband seriously.  ;D

The sooner i can get rid of virgin.net the better  >:(

You have a great community here from what I've been reading. keep up the good work guys
Vrooooooooooom........oh wait. Whats happened?

Rik

Welcome to the forum, have a karma. :)

You'll find we generally purr, put the world to rights and discuss food - it's not often we have any problems to talk about. ;)

someone mention me? ;D Welcome TheMonkey, you won't be disappointed.

TheMonkey

Hello again  ;D

got my mac code and have signed myself up. whoop.

says i should be up and running by 6pm on the 26th.

it didn't say but is there anything i need to do? turn my router off/reset or do i just leave it?

thanks again for you help
Vrooooooooooom........oh wait. Whats happened?

Rik

The 6pm is just a BT bit, covering themselves against delay, most migrations actually happen in the small hours and all you will need to do is change the login settings in your router. We look forward to seeing you amongst us. :)

After a while, though, it gets repetitive, Steve. What we need is a whole chorus line of bananas that we could individually choreograph.  :)

Not me, that's for sure - I don't do clever. :)

Just 10 more posts, Steve, and you become elevated to a Netter Nutter!

Another newbie. Hi folks. Great forum, but I'll have to get a dictionary to join in ;)

Going live on IDNet on 27th after 11 months of hell with BT.

Good bit - as a result of unbelievable cock-ups on their part they paid me £108 compensation for poor service, and then forgot to bill me for the whole of the 11 months. They sent me a letter on Wednesday saying they had caught up with me, but were not charging me for the unpaid months.

The letter said that my contract time had expired, even thought it was supposed to run until Sept 08. So I chanced my arm and asked for a MAC - and they gave it to me.

I think I'll buy a lottery ticket this week.

MoHux

Blimey Mark!  With that sort of 'pull' at BT you'll be very welcome here!  :o

:welc:
"It's better to say nothing and be thought an idiot - than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

mark

I could use the words 'pull' and 'BT' in the same sentence, and find myself banned after only 2 posts >:(

Lance

Welcome to the forum Mark. Have a welcome karma!

You'll be glad to be free from BT! Well BT isp anyway!

Sounds like a good idea, Mark. Welcome to the forum. :)

We may not be as big as BT, but we have a better sense of humour. ;)

I wouldn't joke about BT as a friend of mine has just signed up with them and after a few set up problems he now seems to be happy.

Mind you he does work for them and tells me he's getting it for free  ;D

Is this all too good to be true?

Got up this morning to find that the migration had taken place in the early hours. Logged on with absolutely no problems and I'm computer alit ilitar challenged.

The office also got the billing correct first, time without several phone calls, and the need for me to learn 3 different languages. (How many people in Bombay are really called Kevin?)  ???

Next job is to find a phone package that also includes line rental. If BT don't provide the line will I still be able to keep IDNet? If I can do this I will be finally free of BT.

Rik

It's got to be a BT line, Mark, as the underlying service is provided by BT. If you went unbundled, eg Talk Talk, Be etc, they would provide both calls and broadband.

How are your speeds?

Not sure how to do this but here we go

Seems broadly similar to that received from BT

That worked. Thanks for the advice re line. Looks like I'm stuck for now.

Rik

Can you post your line stats please - instructions for getting them here if you need them.

My router is not listed bu I found the following - is this what you need?

Operation Data

Upstream     Noise Margin 14db     Attenuation 63db

Downstream     Noise Margin 4db   Attenuation 63db

Rik

You're not going to go much faster with that attenuation. :( It's unusual that your u/s and d/s margins are the same, it probably suggests that the true figures are higher, the router can't report a figure greater than 63db though.

With the snr that high I would think BT have upped it to make the line more stable, and as RIk said being so far from the exchange you won't get much more than you have, sadly its the limits of the technology  :(
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Thanks guys. Fortunately I am a prospective member of the senior's club on here, and this will be good enough for me. I can receive pictures of the grandchildren and write Victor Meldrew type emails to the papers so I am a happy bunny  ;D
