Testing my router

Lately I have had a couple of system lock ups.  These seem associated with my router, a Solwise SAR130.
The router itself also tends to lock up on occasions.  Is there anyway to thoroughly test the router? As a secondary question what router would the team recommend as a replacement, if necessary?

I don't know a way to test routers, tbh, they tend to work or not work. Netgears are supplied by IDNet and work pretty well for most people, the Speedtouch 585 is good, and the new 'hot tip' is the 2 Wire 2700HG or HGV - available on eBay.

Is the router over-heating?

No it is no overheating that I am aware of.  I have no concrete reason for blaming the router, it's just that I get a fare number of lock ups on it, and when the system locks sometimes it only has the power light on.

It could be a noisy mains supply, can you try a surge suppressor?

We have a pretty poor supply, is gets cut off several times a year, for that reason I do have one Rik.

There are three things I've known to cause router issues:

Heat
Power supply
Noise on phone line

If it were a Netgear, I'd add 'using Routerstats telnet interface'.

Can you borrow a spare router to see what happens?

Nah, unable to borrow, no friends who would trust me!
Not played up since I posted here, of course it reads all my communications, so guess it is worried about getting its P45.  ;)

Routers are like that, sneaky little devils. :)
