Anybody been regraded yet ??, not sure if I have...if I have it has not made any difference to download

Ok....I know why speed is low....my SNR has dropped from 26 to 5.5

Nothing my end has changed since yesterday......so why the big drop

There are going to be some bizarre speeds with Max. Ppl need to realise that sync speed and throughput can be entirely different

yeah no doubt, but i've been having the same with 2mbit recently (speeds down to 70-80kbps)..could it be down to contention?

Switched off router for 15 mins = nothing
updated firmware = nothing

sync at 7808 d/l speed of 240kbps

Hmm I've just noticed that my router doesn't have SNR....been looking at DS Noise margin all the time :/

Is SNR the same as DS Noise margin, if not how can I find out what my SNR is?

BT require a minimum SNR to allow you to sync at any given speed (I think it's 6dB). Noise margin is how much you've got in excess of that minimum.

So your SNR can go down to 6dB without worrying, that's equivalent to a noise margin of zero.

Cheers for that m8, at the moment the DS Noise Margin is around 1-3dB, hopefully thats ok.

Well, how I telnet into my router may be different to other users...

Bring command prompt up, type in telnet 192.168.1.1 <enter> (usually this is the ip of your router)
login and password will come up and if you have not changed them, they are admin , admin

now this bit may be different on each make of router, I am not sure

get dsl params <enter>

and you should have all imfo there -:
local line atten(db) = 29.5
local snr margin(db) = 6.0

Kuja, you don`t need to Telnet your router, stats are already there for you

However, just to see if you can, copy this http://192.168.0.1/cgi-bin/webcm?todo=debug and paste into browser, see if you get a message "Debug Enabled".

For the DG834, to enable telnet, go to http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug . Which will display the message "Debug Enabled". Telnet will remain active untill the router is restarted.

Thanks Adam, that worked.

However, I'm not getting any login prompts etc, its not accepting 'get dsl params either'

Open up a command prompt and type in at the prompt telnet 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, depending on what your router address is, there will be a prompt for password, enter it (you won`t see anything on screen) then copy this , right click beside the hash and paste:

You may see a slight drop in sync speed during peak hours if your SNR drops below 6 but it shouldn`t affect throughput.

Begs the question, is anyone actually getting a throughput anywhere near their sync?

I'm getting about 650kbps -> 700kbps from http://gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk

Not settling at a constant speed, but its spiking between the above rate

I'm not complaining though!

Same here Kuja, can`t complain at any extra speed for no extra cost!

Mark, BT had informed us that once a line is Maxed, it could take 75 minutes to increase throughput, but for reasons unknown this has not happened in some cases. :\

That's a Netgear router, right? There's an error in the firmware, it's not "dropping" to 0dB, it's rising from -1dB. The 2147... is a mis-representation of -1 in binary. If it's a DG834, I think the later firmware, which you can get from the Netgear site, will fix it. Amongst other things

I`m using a 632 and from what I can tell, firmware v3.6.0 (I`m using v3.4.0) only adds ADSL2+ support so I`m not gonna bother with it.

Reading the Netgear forums, it appears that some folk have had trouble with it. It does after all warn you not to install it if you aren`t on ADSL2+

I`ve been synced at 7.008Mbit for 25.5 hours now, SNR actually dropped to zero last night but it didn`t resync

SNR is at 8 now ... Mr Saffron pointed me towards "crosstalk*" last night, I had been blaming contention for the drop in SNR during peak times but apparently contention does not alter SNR?

*Crosstalk is the term given to a scenario whereby other peoples telephones, extra electrical equipment (street lamps etc), atmosphere can affect your line quality*
