So what would you like to see in the next version of Windows? Other than less bugs and viruses of course!

I'd like either built in anti-virus, or preferably, a modification to the security centre, to prevent internet access if up to date anti-virus and firewall software is not present.

A bloody "working" filesystem, registry that doesnt degrade within a month or so

Rik

Tackling the registry, making it less bulky and more robust would be a good move in my book.

I'd like to see the Windows core being small enough to load into solid state memory which could have a physical switch to prevent it being overwritten but allow for any updates and would then boot up almost instantaneously. I'd also like it where possible to let the things I do take priority rather than me having to wait until it's finished some background task.

Rik

I like the solid-state idea, John. It would be a bit like the old BBC Micro, which had the OS in ROM.

Exactly Rik, flick the switch at the back and before your hand got to the keyboard it was booted up, those were the days.

Rik

Weren't they just. :) All those extension ROMs... Joy was an EPROM programmer and some assembler code.
