Just downloaded latest messenger Live and also downloaded windows live mail and live photo gallery, they look quite good at the moment.  Run locally on computer and online if needed.  Something for nothing is what I like and this is on XP as well.  Have a look at windows live site, see what you think.

I know Sue prefers Live Search to Google Earth, Alf. I'll have to take a look and see what else is on offer. Isn't it nice when people give us stuff.  :)

Just been getting used to Live Mail, it's not too bad.  Best thing is you can access Hotmail account as well for both sending and receiving.  Will let you know how I get on with it.

Please do, Alf, I'm sure members would welcome a 'hands on' report.

Lots of in built security and junk mail stuff that can be easily adjusted for personal use.  Similar layout to Thunderbird as regards account setups. Can easily add emoticons and other html stuff.  Easy to navigate.  A marked improvement on Outlook express and not as big to use as Outlook.  I am beginning to like it.

Also lots of other free live stuff, there is a photogallery and an off line blog writer that can be utilised for other blogs besides MS's own.  They all tie in to messenger as well.

Another MS release for XP that is hidden but well worth it.

Interesting, Alf. Jill will like it if it can add smileys. :)

Tried live mail, didn't get along with it, I can access my hotmail from OE if needed anyway as I have a paid account, live mail takes ages to load as it has to log in first before you can use it, so in theory if you can't log in you cant retrieve any pop emails. The on board spell check is American English so the usual words like colour get highlighted,  it also downloads your messenger contacts and mixes them with your OE contacts therefore you have to go through them all and merge them, it has basic spam and phishing filters but to be honest its still a bit clunky, moving email from each account folder to storage folders is a bit hit and miss as well. After a week of use I had a few freezes as well so in the end removed it and cleaned the registry, I'll wait for v2 before trying again. The latest Live messenger on the other hand works smoothly and with no issues, but it did freeze a couple of times when windows mail was installed, another reason I removed it was you had no progress bar when sending large attachments, yes you can have smilies but I send and read in plain text anyway so really for me that makes no odds. V1 needs some work on it still I would say, and the online reviews for it seem to echo that as well. Thunderbird is still better and does not want to integrate into everything on your system that has the word live in it from Microsoft. Also WLM does not support most antispam plugins and I don't trust Microsoft's to be that effective since I have my hotmail set to exclusive so its only contacts and MS stuff I can receive yet viagra adds still get past.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

What are Viagra adds? ???

It's early days yet but at the moment I find it quite good have had no problems with it and I ignore the spell checker with American words.  Just have to see how I get on with it, much prefer it to Outlook though and for me it loads quickly and it still checks pop messages withoout logging in, although I have my machine log in automatically, always have.

Like any other app it will always come down to personal preferences, for example I don't lke Firefox but find IE7 very good, I didn't get on with Thunderbird yet liked outlook express...wait a minute have I been brainwashed ???

Then again I prefer Intel to AMD >:D

I agree completely, Alf. I just can't get on with TBird. I used to use Eudora and, before that, Pegasus, but now I prefer Outlook. It's just about how I do things, it doesn't mean one is better than the other.

I prefer OE/Outlook to thunderbird but prefer thunderbird to WLM which is what I was trying to say :) and I like to keep my contacts for hotmail separate from my main contacts in OE, I use different email addresses for different groups of people/business etc, the WLM client seems to want to take over it all, and at this time I will wait it out till they iron the quirks out of it, OE and Outlook both load a lot faster than WLM as they don't have to log in to your windows live ID First, the other day there was a msn log in glitch for a few minutes and that froze the WLM client, I guess its if its not broken don't fox or fix it ;D
