i have been using a netgear DM111P modem which came "pre-installed by idnet"
because i now want idnet in another room as well, i have obtained a netgear DG834, also "setup by idnet."
now i have a friend who is about to join idnet, so can i give him my DM111p to use, or does it contain information relating specificaly to me???

i ask this question because i don't understand what idnet do when they set them up

thx

Azazel

Neither do I know exactly what they do, but i would assume that they tweak a few settings for their network and put in your username and password details so its setup and ready to go for you all you gotta do is plug it in,

In otherwords without clearing the settings back to factory default, no you cant give it to you freind.

There should be a little button thingy hidden on the back of the modem/router in question that resets to factory default but dont quote me on that one!

Azazel

As suspected it does have a factory reset button:

http://kbserver.netgear.com/pdf/DM111_RM_23Aug06.pdf

The manual above shows you were it is in the "layout" guide and later on the troubleshooting it tells you how to reset it, after you have reset it there should be no issues giving it to your freind as its all at factory defaults.

thx for the reply AZAZEL , but i think you missed the point there, i don't want to go back to "factory settings" i want to give this to my friend, ready set up for idnet .
but i need assurance that the set up does not contain any info relavent to me.

All you should have to do is remove your username and password details from it. If your friend knows what his are already, you could put these in for him while you are on the screen. This would mean that all he has to do is plug it in. Otherwise, just delete yours and pass it over to him to enter them.
