OK - after having PC No 2 boot linux by default with XP being the second OS, I took the plunge and setup PC1 to dual boot XP and Ubuntu 64.

After a bit of trouble getting the soundcard going (X-Fi Extreme Audio) I found I could use the Audigy SE drivers - and sure enough - now I have sound (even if it is only 2 channel).

I was pleasantly surprised when my printer and scanner just worked, and even tried the first look secondlife Windlight viewer without problems.

So time to try and get the rest of the hardware going - starting with the TV card - Hauppauge HVR 1300. I'd heard good things about MythTV - and so installed it no problem. MySql got bunged in there all courtesy of synaptic, and I assumed I was good to go, but no. Everytime I launch MythTV I get the backend config program and it complains it can't connect to the server. Now, I've never really used MySQL so I tried some googling - which lead to me a lot of gobbledegook (And I'm computer literate, lol).

So can anyone explain in words of one syllable what I need to do to get MythTV working?

TIA.
Have I lost my way?
