I am using a Netgear DG834G router and I have been using my second PC on the wireless network for the last few days without problem. When I booted it up this morning it keeps trying to acquire a network address for several minutes then decides it is unable to connect. I suspect the problem lies with the router as I have now tried to connect with my main PC and have the found that the same is happening. Both machine will connect ok via ethernet.

Any suggestions would be very gratefully received.

Like the avatar, Ray. :)

Have you looked to see whether the Netgear is flagging any problems with the wireless interface? My first thought would be to try turning off encryption and see if you can then connect. If you can, reset the key in the router and at the machines.

Lance

Stupid question - but have you tried rebooting the router?

Glad you like the avatar thought I should make it look a bit seasonal for Christmas.  ;)

Thanks, Rik, after trying my Laptop and finding that connected ok I realised what could be a possible cause.

I use Network Magic on all my PCs to manage the network this morning I had downloaded and installed an update to both of the desktops and 1 uninstall later I could connect that machine to the wireless network.

So I had obviously been caught out by the dodgy update syndrome  >:( would seem that the update seems to break something in the Netgear as the programme does communicate directly with it.

Needless to say all machines have been reverted back to the pre update version and all is now well after a couple of hours of messing about and strong language.  :o  :)
