I know this has been debated before but how much download does streaming radio use say per hour, please? ;D

Absolutely no idea, Alf. :)

However, if we assume a 128kbps stream, that would take 16kB/sec or about 55MB/hour. That relies on my maths though, probably an unwise thing to do, so maybe someone can confirm?

I know it sounds a silly question but my friend wants to come to IDNEt and wants to know how much d/l he would use by listening to radio.  Thanks for your help Rik.  Your maths are better than mine anyway, I'm an English language person and can't use the calculating side of my brain..except for food. ;D

Compared to video, Alf, radio is not a huge bandwidth-hog. By my calculations, if someone listens to radio for 20 hours a day, they will consume around 30GB/month doing so - but that figure may be wildly wrong. It might be worth dropping Simon an email?

Recently I have noticed streaming on say radio 1 has been 6-700kbs :-\
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Lance

I think I normally stream radio from the bbc at around 64kpbs, but this is not the multicast streams, which are much higher.

Thanks everyone for your replies.  I can now inform my friend and sign him up to IDNET.  I won't let him go anywhere else. >:D
