Newbie Help

Hi all

I am in the process of escaping the clutches of BT. I am planning on joining IDNET as I am fed up with calling a land far far away and speaking to the BT story tellers......

I have acquired a 2700HGV (Bt 2 wire) to use as my line is fairly long and reading through the posts on the forum this looks like the kiddie to have. I plan to get around the usual problems by DNS poisoning. However I will be lost beyond this point in terms of setting it up to work with IDNET. I would be grateful for any advice or info in how to set it up (i.e. any IDNET specific settings).

Welcome to the forum, Scott!!! Have a welcoming karma!

Once you have done the DNS poisoning, all you have to do is enter your IDNet user name and password in the connection settings (as you would with any other router).

There should be nothing more to it then that, as the purpose of the DNS entry is to prevent the router 'phoning home', finding it has the wrong user name, and changing it to what it thinks it should be.

Hopefully you will get great results, like most of us, from the router!

Hi Scott

Enter your username and passwords as normal but don't press the save button at the bottom of the page as you will probably get an "invalid username" alert.
Instead, type or paste this without quotes "javascript:document.pagepost.submit()" into the browser address bar. This will save the info properly.

There 's a checkuserid function in the firmware. So if ya names not down, ya not comin in!!
There are several ways to get "around" it, i did mine by actually hacking the source code and adding idnet as an allowed domain

. Also if you apply the poison and then run the setup wizard, that should work as well but i haven't tried that method "yet".

Many thanks for the warm welcome and the info chaps.

I'll be dropping IDNET a line over the next day or so to get the migration underway. Cant wait to have a reasonable service and deal with people that clearly know what there up to. I'll let you know how I get on once I'm up and running with the 2700.

many thanks for all the advice. I have finally got round to doing the deed and signing up with IDNET tonight. The 2700 arrived today so hopefully in 3 days time I'll be free from BT...............

Does anybody know whether the 3 days to transfer the service is set in stone or can these things go any quicker or slower?
