Does anyone feel really cheated by the quality of video from BBC Online? I mean, 225kbit/second in this day and age is disgraceful.

I'm watching the snooker at the money while doing some work and the fuzzyness it nuts!

Does anyone know when they'l be properly rolling out multicast? and if so, will they up the bit rate?

Also speaking of the snooker, ugh - I had such high hopes for Mark Selby but its all gone to pot, pardon the awful pun, in the last few frames.

What is BBC online?  Is it the iPlayer thing that I ditched some time ago?  Or is it something else?

Not sure about the bitrate but you can now go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/ and watch past shows without the awful kontiki software, you just need the latest version of flash, can't see many people using the player from now on.

Not sure about the bitrate but you can now go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/ and watch past shows without the awful kontiki software, you just need the latest version of flash, can't see many people using the player from now on.

Does watching a programme there use a huge amount of your download allowance?

I haven't quantified it, Noreen, but most video is bandwidth hungry. It would be a case of trying it, having noted your usage figure, then checking afterwards.

I think it's great that the BBC is now using streaming instead of forcing us to use P2P so I went there to see if I could wach the Newsnight programme I forgot to record or watch last Thursday.. is it there?  oh no, of course not.  So the lesson learnt is not to rely on it.

According to the Newsnight site it's only available for watching for 24 hours after being shown. I notice that it was called "Boozenight"!
