Ok I've taken the plunge and 'won' an unlocked 2700hg from DigiDave on E-Bay. My only previous experience with setting up broadband connections is with a ST330 USB modem.

Does anyone have a link to an idiots step by step guide for how to get the router working on IdNet once it arrives - running XP on the PC?

I intend connecting it direct via an ethernet cable - just the one PC in the house - and would also like some advise on how to stop the wireless being 'piggybacked' by unknown users.

Cheers....

Rik

Hi Wingnutz

You can find the manual at:

http://adsl24.co.uk/faq/attachments/61/2Wire_2700.pdf

Further reading is at:

http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=4181.msg64416#msg64416

The easiest way to stop piggybacking is to disable the wireless is to navigate to:

http://home/xslt?PAGE=C01&THISPAGE=B02&NEXTPAGE=C01

and disable wireless.

There is also some good advice on DigiDave's own site, via eBay, mine was dispatched yesterday, so I will be in the same boat as you once it arrives. ;)

They are quite easy Inactive, I'm at 5500 from 4500 profile wise since mine arrived, since so many people seem to have one now I'm sure between us we can help as we learn  :)

Thanks Inactive - I've had a look a DigiDave's support page and it looks fairly straightforward. 'Won' mine last night so I'm going to be a day or two behind you in setting it up. If you have any issues / problems can you post them and the solution ?

Cheers

Will do, I am probably the most technically challenged person on here when it comes to computers, so if I can get it working, you will be fine. ;D

As you can see from my profile, I do have a good line with good results Gary, I thought I would risk the £16.01 to see if it did anything on a good line...Thanks for your kind offer of help, I am sure I shall need some.

I'd be interested to know what it does to your speeds In.  If it does anything, I might get one after christmas.

I wonder how many 2700 owners we have aboard?

BTW I have a 2nd 2700 on the way, it is the original single channel version with the updated firmware £16.57 delivered. I hope it wasn't one of you guys that bumped the price up, 4hrs before the auction close. Someone bid 6 times lifting the price from 0.99p to £9.07. Maybe we should avoid this by posting the auction URL that we are bidding on.

That's a good idea, Glenn, as we could easily cost ourselves money otherwise. :)

I maybe able to donate one of my 2700's to the forum next month, once I have tested the single channel version on my line. The dual channel version has improved my connection by around 80% from a 1750 to 3000 profile.

A sort of forum loaner, for those who want to try one, Glenn? That would be very generous. I believe that Ted (Xild) was thinking along the same lines.

I wonder if the team at IDNet Towers would consider holding it, then when requested sending it out to the person that requested to test it?

I'm sure we could talk to them, or we could simply work on the basis that the person borrowing pays for the postage on to the next person, with it being sent Record Delivery for insurance purposes.

I've got one coming from DigiDave. I'm hoping that it'll be slightly better than my ST 585v6 (which, incidentally, is very good). I won it for £9.04.  ;D
