Will let you know when mine arrives.

Mine has 7 quite deep scratches/marks on it Seb.

It was in sealed clear packing, but that can be done with a kitchen heat seal machine. ;)

That is true.

I guess that I was quite lucky as I got mine so cheap, so even if I don't get a replacement it's still money well spent, even if I had no working ethernet LED.  ;)

You got the deal of the year ..jammy sod..  ;D

sometime back Rik said we're still waiting for our first disaster story , well i think i've got it, i have bought off dodgy dave ,a 2wire 2700HG B, B everyone else seems to have the V version. do.nt know why he sent this ,
and despite having read just about every thing i can about setting up , on this site ,i just don't understand it

anyone know where i can get a simple,  do A ,then B, then C, style set of set up instructions , that is assuming this B version is ok ???

Den

Hi merlin, I don't think there is much difference between the two but if you google for 2wire 2700hgb there is loads of help on there.  ;D

Digidave has that info on his help pages via eBay, it is very straightforward, assuming that your unit is working, mine isn't.

For what it's worth, my 2700HGB arrived from D.D. on Christmas Eve - won in one of his auctions rather than from his web site or ebay shop.  In the auction description it was stated that it wasn't the HGV.  It does claim to be SIP aware, but it doesn't have the separate VOIP sockets.  No great loss in my case.

It wasn't too difficult to set up, but I did have to do a full system reset/reinitialise to enable me to reset the admin password.

So far it's awesome.  My old Draytek used to sync at just over 2.6 mbps resulting in a 2mbps profile but the 2700 instantly synced at 3.7 mbps yielding a 3 mbps profile - Result!

In addition, my Draytek didn't handle SNR < 5db well and used to drop out.  As a result my target noise margin appears to be 12db - this is the SNR the 2700 reports immediately upon connection.  So I'm hopeful that over the next month my target noise margin may drop back to 6db if the 2700 is capable of holding the line at low SNR.  (I see about a 4db drop between the best and worst SNR on my line - seen on both draytek & 2700 routers)

I'd be interested to know if anyone has any views on how well the 2700HGB/HGV performs with low SNR conditions (say around 2-3 db) which is what I'd see my line drop to around 10pm if it was 6db during quiet times of the day.

Phil.

Just noticed you haven't had a welcome Karma, Phil.  Now rectified.  :)

My experience is that the 2700 seems to re-sync once the noise margin drops below 5db. My Netgear would hold down to -2db (apparently). However, the 2700 is as stable as the Netgear, to judge by the interval between re-syncs, and it always re-syncs 4-500k higher than the Netgear.

Link for your help;

A further tip if it doesn't work;

Please reset the 2Wire router/modem by pushing the reset button at the back with a straightened-out paper clip or similar for 10 seconds, while the router/modem is powered on. Then disconnect from power and reconnect to power.

The last one was from DigiDave himself.

My one holds sync down to 1db even seen it at 0db Rik. I have the BT version maybe that's the difference :-\
My stats right now are :

Downstream Rate:    6496 kbps
Upstream Rate:    448 kbps
Channel:    Interleaved
Current Noise Margin:    2.0 dB (Downstream) 23.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Attenuation:    47.1 dB (Downstream) 29.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Output Power:    19.5 dBm (Downstream) 11.9 dBm (Upstream)

Mine is still going strong; 12 days and counting. Hopefully my target SNRM will drop 3dB to 12dB in a few days, then another 14 days after that and I can be back to my normal 9dB. Then I can really see how good the 2700 is. But it certainly appears to be a very strong router.

Mine should hit 14 days tomorrow :)

Further to my problems with very slow sync speeds on the 2700hg (250kps down from 3.5Mps) I've had another suggestion from DigiDave as to what to do - and I quote......

please try this: Log into the router's management console page at page at http://192.168.1.254/mdc

On the left side under "Advanced", click on "Configure Services"

Set the "Force Upstream MTU" value to 1396 then hit Submit. Reboot the modem/router.

Won't be able to try until later this evening but does anyone think such a suggestion will help ?

Rik

Absolute rubbish I'm afraid. :( It might improve throughput, if that were the issue, but it won't affect sync speed. IAC, for IDNet, an MTU of 1500 is fine, the lowest I would recommend is 1458.

Mine is set at 1500, seems different 2700's have different issues, I wonder about ADSL firmware compatibility with the UK with some of these other 2700's :-\ I agree with Rik and am wondering about digidave at this point and his stock of 2700's

Thanks Rik,

I've replied to DigiDave along the lines of your comment and await their response. Nice to be able to call on the advice of people with more knowledge than I or it would appear Dave has .....

Cheers

Without wanting to get into a legal situation in a forum Inactive, I would question the items sold at this point, I'm sure he is completely unaware of any issues with his product and would not knowingly sell a bad product >:D
