My thoughts entirely - maybe two from three if you're lucky. Then you can see one on and have a 2700 for free.  8)

This must be costing Digidave more than it's worth to keep sending out replacements like this, I would have thought as they are described as " Refurbished ", then they all should have been at least tested prior to dispatch, obviously not. ::)

It does make you wonder, In. How can a refurbished product be faulty - it must surely be tested? In practice, I'm beginning to suspect that refurbished may just mean 'stuck in a plastic bag' in this case. :(

I am 100% certain that is the case Rik. :(

It seems to be pot luck if you get one that works/works properly.

It makes you wonder what he pays for them, doesn't it.

 Just got another email from Caroline;

Just to be clear, all the 2700HG's are 2Wire units, regardless of badge; the badge is the only difference. Also, we've sold thousands of these modem/routers over the last 12 months, with very few problems - I myself use one at home.

A replacement ships ASAP. Please let me know how you get on with it when you receive it.

At least they now admit there is a problem - this is what I got from Caroline -

We've not had any customers reporting this particular issue to us in the past - it is likely that your unit is malfunctioning, so when you receive the replacement we sent on Friday please let me know how you get on with it (in the reply to this email EKQ-55517).

(Incidentally, I use the 2700HG myself at home, as a replacement for an old Netgear DG834 I had for several years. I've always gotten excellent speeds with it, and I've never once had to reboot it in the 3 months it's been up).

Rik

Before forums existed, they would have denied anyone had ever had a problem. Or am I being too cynical?

Gotten - Caroline must come from Carolina! :)

When I used to rent a TV and Video from a well known high street TV rental outlet, I once asked an engineer exactly what 'refurbished' meant, because refurbished products were generally cheaper to rent than new ones.  The answer?  "Dusted and put in a bag".  So, there you go!  Maybe DodgyDave used to work for a TV rental company!

BTW,  :thnks: I did quote the reference number you gave, that obviously backed up my argument.

Riks point about the word " gotten " may actually be valid, AT&T ??   .. Is Caroline from Carolina ?

;D

Thanks OB, If this one doesn't work, I will be seeking a full refund, and washing my hands of the whole idea, I never needed one in the first place, I just thought I would give one a go to see what happened.

That Rik talked be in to it, I blame him..  >:D ;D ;D

i'm having a running battle with caroline at dd's site, as i said earlier the 2700 they sent was totally dead , it would not sync with the internet at all, showing a constant red dsl light,no matter what i did.
after many emails about, do this ,do that ,she has finally admitted that the unit is a dodo.

all along i've demanded a full refund, including the cost of returning the unit to dd. this i can do since the unit was faulty on receipt, and under the "distance selling regs", they are obliged to give a refund, rather than replacement if that is my preferrence .although she has said she can arrange an immediate replacement, which i have refused.(based on the posts on this site, replacement is not the best option !!!)

i will keep you posted, "INACTIVE" ,you may like to consider the "distance selling regs as an aid ???

also i.ve pointed out loudly ,that as YET i have not given a rating to EBAY, that seemed to be the trigger point to admit the unit was faulty !!!

Simon

As a last resort, your credit card company should back you up, Merlin, and if they had to initiate a recovery on your behalf, the vendor would be charged a recovery fee.  ;)

Hi merlin,

Thanks for that, it seems that your one has exactly the same symptoms that my first one had, that was replaced by a second unit that killed my speed down to 550, my third one is now on it's way, I will see if this one works.

Like you I have held back feedback on eBay, I am aware of the 7 day distance selling regs, but thanks for bringing it to the attention of the forum. ;)

It would appear that the majority of these units have a fault of some description.

My experience with DD is they're not unreasonable people at all, and your problem should be sorted to your satisfaction. :)

Oh one other thought that crossed my mind on the matter, DD is based in Jersey, I am fairly certain that the Distance Selling Regs. don't apply as Jersey has it's own laws, it isn't even in the EU.
