I'm not surprised, Noreen, but I am saddened for the staff who worked to make it a good company at one time. Somehow, I feel Mr Austin will not be too hard hit personally. :(

Had you still got anything under their guarantee, Rik? My laptop's three year guarantee ran out last October so they just lasted long enough for me. Yes, as always it's the workforce who suffer. I got made redundant once (by my branch office closing) and it can make you very bitter.

Rik

I 'came out' from warranty at the end of September, Noreen - but it does make a joke of their 'lifetime technical support'.  :(

I'm just glad that they were so inept and unreasonable when I tried to buy from them this time last year...  :phew:

My machine was originally and Evesham, I must say it has given me good service.  Of course, because I am a sucker, I have upgraded it since using a local computer company.  Still refer to it as "Eve", in fact my wife has often threatened to divorce me on the grounds of desertion, as (she says) I spend more time with Eve than with her!  :hide2:
Nothing is perfect, not even my ignorance!

Yes, my Evesham laptop has been great for the last three years, had one memory failure which was rapidly repaired. Before that I had an Evesham desktop and that was good too.

Rik had one once ...................................  ::)

Ironically, I notice that QVC were selling an Evesham LCD TV yesterday, with a manufacturer's 3-year warranty. Clearly, they hadn't heard the news.

Or they had heard it, and chosen not to tell anyone...oh well that should keep the 30 day returns people busy..  ;D

Assuming people find out within the 30 days. I find it quite amusing they are talking about a manufacturer's warranty in the first place. Evesham certainly aren't that!

Agreed.

I seem to recall that their TV's are/were made by Tatung, so possibly Tatung will stand the warranty.

Maybe I'll phone QVC and ask. :)

I see that the Evesham website is still up and offering goods for sale. http://www.evesham.com/

Rik

I would have thought that was illegal, if the news is accurate.

Not sure about that, Rik.  CD-Wow!, a music / DVD retailer went into receivership last year, were bought out by another company, and they continued trading throughout.  I say continued trading, they continued taking orders, with payments up front, but weren't actually fulfilling a considerable amount of orders.  They did, however, maintain contact with customers, and refunded payments when people cancelled orders.

Rik

There's a difference between receivership and liquidation, though, Simon. In administration/receivership, the firm can continue to trade as a solutions is sought, eg agreement with creditors, buyer etc. Liquidation, though, is the winding up of a company and the distribution of its assets. At that point, I would have expected continued trading to be illegal.

It looks as though it was inevitable from this item from last November. http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2007/11/05/evesham_creditors_meeting/

I used to visit Evesham Mic when it was a 2 man workshop in the centre of Evesham a sort of garden shed operation, they willing to help and advise at almost any time but PC's were new then.
When the company began to expand they lost that personal touch and only seemed to want deal with the big players in the world of technology, I think that was when the rot set in and the company was doomed.
EX Orange and proud of it.

Noreen

It looks as though the Evesham website has now gone, at least I can't get it.

Rik

Yet some reports (PCPro) say they're still trading. Odd. :( (I can't get the website either...)

Take care of all your memories. For you cannot relive them.

Lance

But they have probably been sitting in various warehouses en route to the store, and only just put out!

I just wonder if the administrator has been selling off stock?

It would seem the sensible thing to do, before the news becomes widespread amongst the ordinary uneducated consumer.

Rik

That was my thought, Lance, given QVC were pushing Evesham TVs on Friday.  :(

Perhaps they should put them on the Tiscali Home Page..  ;D

Wouldn't the warranty have to be honoured by ASDA?

Rik

All warranties are with the retailer, Noreen, whatever they may say to the contrary, and they're not limited to one year either. :)
