Failure to send could be the result of using the IDNet SMTP server without an IDNet connection...

i had that exact problem. was fine using the webserver at idnet.net but when trying to send through mozzila thunderbird it didn't want to know. all fine now though, saying that i have gone back to windows mail.  ;)
Vrooooooooooom........oh wait. Whats happened?

It shouldn't send at all, tbh. Before you activate, it's really a 'receive only' email. IDNet, in common with other ISPs, requires you to be connected to their service to use the SMTP server. It's a security issue.

are you sending it from the website?

I've just removed your email address from the post, we don't want you being spammed. :)

It looks like the SMTP server is giving you access, but the Australian email address is being declined by the host server, bigpond.com.

Rather than cut'n'paste, try typing the address manually, it may be that you;re picking up an invisible but invalid character.
