I notice that IDNet are asking for the card security code in the Payment Details section of 'Your Account'.  As retailers aren't allowed to store this number, can I ask why they are requesting it?

Hi and welcome to the forum, have a karma. :)

My guess would be it's for the same reason as online retailers ask for it - to validate the card in the absence of a PIN.

Thank you  ;D

For a one off transaction, absolutely, it's to verify the card is yours, but they're not supposed to store the number so they shouldn't be using it for each monthly payment.

I'm guessing they have to use it every month, but your best bet would be to ask them (support@idnet.net or 0800 0267237) for a definitive answer.

TBH, I would never give any company - even one I trust as much as I do IDNet - a CCA/CPA on a card, I prefer the control of standing order, direct debit or EFT.

Interesting; I never actually knew what the point of the security code was, though I guess it makes sense as it's something unique to the card, so in theory, you'd only know it if you had the card. I also didn't know retailers weren't allowed to store the information. So it's true that you learn something new every day. :)

Do you know that it's being stored and used other than the first time?
I would think that perhaps once the card was validated it wouldn't be necessary to do it again??  :-\
