This really is not my weekend.. purplecloud fell over so I emailed all my scrabblers (I run a duplicate scrabble game by email) and told them to post to idnet address instead.  Now someone's told me that it bounced and my test email hasn't arrived.. anyone else?

Edit:  would it be down to the grey listing thing they do?  Would that cause an email to bounce totally?  I haven't bothered to understand that system but maybe I ought to if I'm going to use the email from time to time.  Or maybe I should just stick with my tiscali address for back up.. never thought I'd say such a thing.

Philip

just sent a test one to myself, got it OK, so no problems my end Ann.

Ann

I think god just hates me.. I'm off to flog myself with some thistles..

Lance

I've not noticed any problems with the email, and I've just recieved a test email fine.

Whilst grey listing could cause an email to totally bounce, this would be because the sending mail server is sending a large number of emails in a short space of time.

Did the bounce message indicate what the problem was?

Are you receiving other emails to the IDNet account, Ann?  You can turn off the spam filters, if you haven't already, so you should receive everything, and one more thing, have you checked your junk folder on the webmail site for your IDNet account?  In case you haven't got it, it's: http://webmail.idnet.com/

No problems here, Ann. It won't be in your junk folder if the sender has told you it bounced, but you might want to try disabling the spam filtering as this could be to blame.

Ann

No no.. spam filtering is different.  That's already off.  This is the other thing.  The test email I did get eventually but it has the line in it that says:

X-Greylist: delayed 00:13:49 by SQLgrey-1.6.8

Weird because it was sent through IDNet SMTP servers.. LOL.  But the email was sent at 20:19 and arrived at 20:44

I don't use the ID email usually but I did receive another post from someone so I know that it's basically working.  That one had the line in it...

X-Greylist: domain auto-whitelisted by SQLgrey-1.6.8

Weird stuff this.. wish I understood it.. is it the from email address it has to okay rather than the SMTP server or what?

Rik

The IDNet boundary servers delay the initial receipt, Ann, and ask the sending server to re-send. Spammers don't like this and tend to move on instead. When the mail is re-sent by the remote server, the IDNet servers white list the domain, so further mail gets through without delay. Does this fit with what you're seeing?

You'd have thought it had already whitelisted its own servers wouldn't you?   ::)

Off to work now.. let's hope that work doesn't go as badly as my weekend..  :'(
