THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT

I migrated to IDnet on 5th September to 8Mb MAX (up to) and transferred without a problem in fact my connection was outstanding, steady, crisp and without fault.

So far so good, BUT........ my download speed was a magnificent rock steady 2Mb minus any problems and has remained so to this day.

Simon and Miriam have been outstanding in helping with investigating via BT the problems that may be causing me to remain on a superb 2Mb connection but good old BT have not come up with an answer (as yet). All ISP line checks estimate that I should receive between 5 & 8 Mb download speed.

My question is, has anyone else experienced this situation? I feel that BT have not thrown the 'right switch' (rural exchange in the Scottish Highlands that has been upgraded to MAX) and I have been left on a 2 Mb speed when I could be enjoying greater speed connection.

I repeat that this is not a complaint and simply to enquire if anyone else has had this 'problem'.

When I first joined idnet I went for the adslmax option and I had problems with throughput. I think the max I got was 1.7mb  :-\ but luckily Simon switched me to a 2mb fixed conn for no extra charge.

Somehow 2mb was actually faster :) and I don't get loads of re-syncs all the time like I did when I was on adslmax.

Just a shame about the ping problem

Also adslmax seems to be advertised to be "as fast as an average 2mb conn at peak times" so I guess you can't do much.

What speed does your modem/router sync at?

Have you had a go with the new BT test site?  Apart from another speed test, which you don't really need by the sound of it, it shows your BRAS profile, so you'll be able to see whether or not it's still artificially restricted to 2Mbps.  It's not the only place where such a restriction can be imposed, so if it doesn't show a restriction, it could still be one of the other places, but it will at least let you know whether or not the BRAS profile is set right.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

At this stage I am convinced that I am am definitely on a 'normal' 2Mbdownload speed and really have no complaints about connectivity and crispness.

I do take on board your comments of past experience.... you do say however, that you had experienced loads of re syncs when you were on ADSL MAX. If I were in fact on ADSL MAX then I think maybe that I would have experienced some of these re syncs, which I haven't, in fact everything has been perfect.

Thanks anyway for your input, it is greatly appreciated. I will just have to wait and see what BT eventually have to say on the matter.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I made three tests via Miriam  3 or 4 days ago using the new BT test you mention and all details were forwarded to BT by Miriam.

Looks like a wait to get some action from BT.

Thanks anyway.

quandam, welcome aboard m8 :)

We have heard of similar and is known as a "stuck bras profile". Basically, yes, you are connected at a significantly higher sync speed than your throughput speed and yes, you are right in thinking that BT just need to flick a switch to bring the two closer together. ;)

FWIW, it will get sorted ... eventually, when BT have employed 32 people to investigate it ... ya know how they work :\
