As the subject says..

The one thing i miss from the 2wire router is the simple http://home insted of the IP.

Is there anyway to set one like this on a netgear dg834g router?

Simon

I'd actually like to know how to set that up on the Netgear!  Doesn't seem to work on mine at the moment.  :(

You can type in routerlogin.com instead of the IP. ;)

That takes me to the netgear website  ???

Also, with the GT version you can telnet into the router and set the SNR
Quoteadslctl configure --snr <snrQ4>

Is this possible on the dg834g version? i know it will be a different command if you can as they are different chipset's.

That's strange, are you using NAT? Or are you using any external DNS services? You need to be using your routers IP address as your DNS server address.

Try it without the www. and see what happens, it should either time out or present the login pop-up.

I don't think that is possible with the DG834G, though I may try it sometime tomorrow.

All router settings are default, except for a few rules that i setup to allow some stuff to be controlled from work.

So i guess NAT is enabled..
DNS settings is set to pick up IDnet's default ones.

I've not really looked around this router yet, but i'm about too hence the questions.

Its pre configed by andrew from IDnet aswell.

I can't really test as I'm using OpenDNS, but I know for sure "routerlogin.com" works on my DG834Gv2 and v3 when OpenDNS is disabled. Rather odd that it doesn't work for you... ???

oh well..

i'm thinking off getting the GT version to mess around with.

have you used this one?

Adam

I haven't used a DG834GT before as I don't like any of this "Super-G" stuff as it generally means you need to buy their cards, and I'm not a fan of vendor lock-ins. I've been looking at the DG834N though, which seems to also be a good product. My only gripe is that the 802.11n standard is still a draft, and I don't want to pay £80 for something that might be useless 12months down the line. :(

I have a DG834PN and wireless is rubbish on that.. i get much better wireless on the basic DG834G router.

I'm always looking for new toys to mess around with :P

I got told i couldn't use the PN version as a wireless access point and a switch, proved that wrong

I think most of the DG834 series has a hidden "bridge" mode, though I've never tried it. I use a ST585v6 in bridge mode as an extender though.

Yeh it is rangemax, nothing max about the range thou lol.

From where the DG834G is now, i get 5 out of 5 on wireless with my laptop..
Same place but with the PN version, i would online get about 2, maybe 3 out of 5 and thats trying different channels.

I dont like extenders thou, most reduce the speed  ???

To be honest I think the whole RangeMax series looked like a quick hack together and marketing ploy from Netgear. They are now using the RangeMax brand for the N-series routers, though 802.11n should have better coverage.

I've found the same, that's why I set the ST585v6 router up as a bridge and connected it with some Cat5.

The whole router feels like a big hack :P
Its alot bigger than most DG834's, has annoying blue flashing lights ontop and they have a mind of there own, Mine was turnt off, but they came on when they wanted too. Poor wireless. Doesn't hold the line aswell as the basic DG834's. Wireless encryption is bad on them, I could go on and on but i will stop there ;D

The best thing about it thou, i have a £100 doorstop  :D
