Pleasure. :)

Just to mention that, IIRC, it's set at 1500 by default. Really there's no reason to change it on the router; it's better to do it within Windows. :)

I just thought id check the router mtu as it was a b grade. i done the ping test and that came out at 1430, so that makes it 1458 with "the 28" yes?

did a speed test at 730am and its better

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 5000 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  5824 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4631 kbps

so im wondering if its exchange congestion

It could well be exchange congestion, pup.

An MTU of 1458 is quite a common setting, but set it in Windows, leaving the router at 1500 :)

The profile is correct for the sync speed, Pup, and the throughput is not far off what you should expect from the profile, so any slowing is almost certainly an exchange problem or, just possibly, an increase in noise (and, therefore, re-sends) because of increased cross-talk at busy times.

That's pretty good, and not at all far off the fastest speed achievable.

pup

From the manual:

To start a Telnet
session
Proceed as follows:
1 Open a telnet application.
2 Connect to your SpeedTouch™.
3 Enter your SpeedTouch™ security user name and password.
As soon as you have opened a session to the CLI, the SpeedTouch™ banner is
displayed, followed by the CLI prompt
You can use the Command Prompt window.
In Microsoft Windows XP for instance:
1 On the Windows taskbar, click Start.
2 Select (All) Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
In the Command Prompt window:
At the prompt, type telnet followed by the IP address of your
SpeedTouch™ (192.168.1.254 by default).
The default user is 'Administrator' and the default password is blank.

No problems, Pup. The only thing is, I've never used a Speedtouch myself, so all I can do is look at the manual and hope I find the right bit. If Sebby sees this, I'm sure he'll correct any misleading information I may have given you. :)
