Is anyone else having trouble getting the BT speedtest to complete itself?  For the last week or so, after it tells me my profile, it starts testing, but then nothing happens.  Today I left it a good long time but finally just closed the page down so I could get on with other stuff.

Rik

It's quite a common issue, Krysia. Best time seems to be early morning, and it seems to work better with IE than Firefox. :(

Thanks, Rik - glad to know it's not just me!  Will try earlier in the day next time.

Sebby

As Rik says, try it earlier. During busy times, you can get it to work, but it takes a lot of patience!

Gramps

I have tried the BT speedtest but it won't let me in even at 4am.

Does it give an error, or does it just say it's busy?

I've had this problem for a couple of weeks - simply starts to test - and sits there doing nothing. No error - no modem activity, nothing, nada

I initially thought it may be a firewall issue, but I don;t use a software firewall anymore (just the routers hardware firewall) - and even tried deactivating that to test - with no difference.
Have I lost my way?

I wonder if uninstalling and reinstalling Java could help? Just a long shot...

I have seen that, I think. Is there a bar at the top of the page that says something like "waiting for user details" but the main page just fails to ever load? If so, I think it's just down to it being busy as that's happened to me on several occasions, but generally I can get it to work, eventually. :)

Every time I do the speed test in Firefox it says it's starting the test and then sits there and does nothing for as long as you let it. Every time I do it in IE7, once it says it's started it runs ok.

Rik,I am using IE7.

Sebby, This is the message I get evey time:

Hi Wilf

Go to your accounts page and check Broadband Setup. Make sure you are using the full username shown there, ie both sides of the @. Do you have BT's Call Sign service? If so, are you using the 'base' telephone number?

Gramps

Hi Rik, I used copy and paste from broadband setup for my username, checked and it's okay.
I don't have BT's Call Sign service.

Rik

It should work, then Wilf (you didn't pick up any stray spaces did you?).

I'm beginning to wonder whether there are several BT tester servers, dotted around the country, and access to some is easier than others?

Gramps

It's been like that for months now, I am certain everything is okay at my end but for some reason it is not accepting my username.

Rik

You're not putting a space in the phone number, are you Wilf (can you see the straws I'm clutching at?).

All I can suggest is checking with support that the username you have is correct - it's highly unlikely, but maybe the website is wrong.

Thanks Rik, looks like it's a problem for support to sort out.

krysia

With Mozilla, I get as far as finding out my IP profile (which is what I'm mostly interested in) but then the speed test never completes; for the past week or so, with IE7, nothing at all happens (though a couple of weeks ago IE7 worked better than Mozilla).

Rik

The speed tester has a mind of its own, or none at all.  :'(

That's about the only sensible way to explain it!

Sometimes, logic simply can't be applied. :(
