i've just noticed i've got 8 karmas, (which i'm very pleased about) but how can i tell who gave them to me and why ??

i remember the first welcome karma, but what did i do that was so good as to earn more karmas ???

Sebby

I'm not sure you can. I agree it would be nice to see who gave them and the reason why.

On another forum I'm a member of, there's a similar system (called reputation) and in the control panel you can see who gave it and their comment.

Simon

Karmas are usually given for good posts, contributions to the forum, funny jokes, being of help to someone, etc.  Most of the time, the karma giver will post what the karma was for in the relative thread, with a :karmic: smiley.  Admins have a log of who gave karmas, and for what reason, but I think it would be quite laborious to plough through it searching for specific entries over several weeks.  :)

If there was a way to have it shown in our control panel, i.e. just the karmas we've received, that would work well. I guess it's probably comes down to the features of the SMF software.

Rik

It does, Sebby. I'll see if we can find a way round it...

I haven't seen any modifications that would allow that with SMF, but we can but try.  :)

I've looked back through the log (please, don't everyone ask me to do this - it's a long log!). You got karmas from:

me         Jan 18    Joke
Simon     Jan 11    Hash tip
me         Dec 17   GB in hell joke
Inactive  Dec 17   ditto
me         Dec 15   KFC riposte
Simon     Oct 24   Welcome

Obviously, I missed some. :(

This would be a really good feature if at all possible. Or would it be classed as vanity to want to know these things? ;D

Rik

We've looked at ways of doing it, and it's proving very difficult to implement. In addition, there's the risk that some people might feel inhibited about giving karma if they knew the recipient would be told - most of us, for that reason, tend to indicate in a post when we have awarded karma, though not always...

Ah rite - thanks for that Rik.

Just I've received a second karma and I haven't a clue what I did to receive it (and no, I'm not asking you to check the logs 8)).

Just thought it would be interesting to see what the karma was for - if I do something good (which isn't that often  ;)), I would be more interested in that than who gave it to be honest.

Rik

I said we didn't always indicate. ;)

I gave you the karma, for gracing us with your presence and enlivening the forum. Only I put the short version of that in the log.  ;D
