Sandisk have announced a 32GB SD card, to hit the market in April. According to El Reg, pricing is likely to be about £176 (my guess is higher in the UK than they say).

The interesting thing, to me, is that there are several HD video cams on the market with a 30GB HD right now. Change to one of these cards and you reduce battery drain, make the capacity infinite, reduce manufacturing costs...

More than seven hours high quality video on a single SD card - it has to be a winner.

I imagine that after a few months the price will be at most half the launch price!

Will be great for people who store their pictures in RAW format too.

Excellent news for my 8 gig mp3 player, which is almost full.

I assume there will be other variations of size and price upwards from the current 2 gig.

edit Just read the artice and they are 8 and 16gb variations.

Lance

You can also currently get 4gb cards :)

Thanks Lance, obviously Costco, were I get them, don't know that yet :)

I've already got an 8GB, Malc - of course, the price fell by a third almost immediately. :)

I would imagine they are working on a 64GB and probably a 128GB card even now.

Apart from video cameras, another potential with this size of card is for car manufacturers to abandon CD players and just put an SD slot in for MP3s. Easier construction and wiring, almost infinite choice of music. Not to mention the potential for use as a flash drive.

Thanks Rik, I'll keep an eye on the price for a while, no doubt in APril when the new ones are ot, the 8gb will drop.

Always one for a bargin eh?
