What router do you use

DG834GT - performs wonderfully for me! Also hand that there are lots of 'hacked' firmwares around meaning lots of additional functionality for the router.

Like, pages loading slow at night for short periods at random times or sometimes not loading until you reboot the router? Wireless encryption problems etc?

Linksys WAG200G. I have two of them, one here and one at my house in Spain.

They used to have a reconnect bug, whereby they wouldn't reconnect if the ADSL line was disconnected. Cured by a firmware upgrade six or so months back.

Very happy now.

Ive had it just over a year psp83 and had no probs at all but this is my first router so cant really say whether ive had probs or not. Have never noticed any thing major as you asked about, have only re booted after firmware updates and after having bother with my sons system on the network. maybe getting a bit bother now as he has a ps3 and trying to get that on the ps network is testing, but no nothing major its been very good. got some nice flashing blue lights on to that you can turn on if you get bored

Just keep an eye out with this router, It can be a right pain in the arse.. I had to reboot mine every day (maybe more than once) because it had the random "dont load a website" bug and the wireless range/encryption is alot worse than the DG834G.

Mine, I have to shut it down at least once a day for about 15mins

I had an 834G v3 running for a year or so before moving to the 2700. No problems of that sort at all. Might be worth trying some extra ventilation, Paul.

Hi Kerrso05. No, I've never had any disconnects with my Zoom X6. I'm no expert but I suggest that the problem lies with your line, home wiring or exchange rather than with your router or IDNet.

I am using a Zyxel 6600 at the moment, I also have a BT Voyager 2100 and a Talk Talk ( read Philips )..along with 3 faulty 2700's . .. I like the Zyxel best of the bunch.

Must admit I have gone back to the DG834G v3 as I started having wireless dropouts when media streaming, granted the 2700 was the best for line speed and stability but the QOS feature on the DG is is better for me personally, I have dropped sync to 5568 but I can live with that and I'm still getting a good snr, maybe some work was done on my DSLAM I think its horses for courses with routers but the 2700 was good but also I need upnp even though it has issues, but the DG does not allow dns changes via it so I'm not to worried there. anyone want a dual SSID 2700 HGV, PM me

Sorry, But i was talking about my older router, the DG834PN version, That router was a nightmare atleast once a day 

But i've got a DG834G router and not had much probs with it, only when BT **** around with my line

I'm using a netgear DG834g V3.  A really good all round router.  Just upgraded the firmware to V4.01.30 and I have a few more options to play round with now including security wep options.

I've got a Billion 7402VGP (with VOIP), which I like - it allows you to set a coding gain that increases sync speed, which is handy, or you can just leave it on auto.  The helpdesk is first-rate - when e-mails about setting up the firewall didn't get me anywhere, they phoned me up (early on a Friday evening!) and talked me through the necessary set-up very patiently!

I have a Linksys WRT54GL running tomato firmware which normally PPPoe's to a Linksys ADSL2MUE in bridge mode.

But thanks to Pipex switching me to Tiscali in the last few days the ADSL2MUE is now running in PPPoa with the WRT54 hanging off it as a DMZ (PPPoe no longer works)

Good news is that it syncs at 8128 rock solid so when I come over to IDnet it will hopefully fly.

V4 DG834G here no issues, infact never had any physical issues with netgear DG834G's I had a DG834GT burn out and connection drop  faster than a lady of the nights panties, then it caught fire  Next I tried a DG834PN what a  nightmare, using full encryption it would make the Network open, you had to drop one digit! It would block msn messenger randomly until you rebooted it and wireless was no better really than the G version, it was just bigger with a blue ufo on top, In the end it went back, after 3 mths Netgear had not sorted out the security issue with the encryption key and I managed to get a refund from Broadband Buyer as it was being sold with a function that did not work (trading standards) The 2700 was the best for long lines but the V4 works great, better than previous versions and I needed some of the features the Netgear has like QOS etc, but the 2700 still gave the best speeds. I do prefer the interface of the Netgear though but that's just a personal thing.

Its pretty much the same you have slightly more detailed stats now which is better and a more precise measurement of snr etc, but you can use DMT tool to alter the snr like the GT version from what I have read (could be wrong you know the net) as it uses a similar broadcom chipset, also it supports Vistas new tcp/ip stack better than the v3 from what I have gleaned. Control is pretty much the same  you have  Wmm-QoS (Automatically adjusts to the needs of Internet, voice, video and gaming applications) WMM-PS and WDS as introduced in the later versions of the v3 firmware, but since its still on the initial firmware things could change there, you can now turn off the messaging ports and firewall with radio buttons as well and of course it still has url content filtering etc. Its designed as a home users router therefore you don't get a massively cluttered interface that will scare people off but time will tell what can be done as far as hacked firmware for it, as its only just come out in the UK. On a separate note it now has a smaller power supply so you can't use it as a hammer in the Olympics anymore Actually just checked you can adjust your snr by telnet but you need to turn on debug mode first.

Netgears are more widely available I think, Rik. Also, most people have heard of Netgear, especially as they're available in high street shops. I'd say the SpeedTouch is the better router, though.

Not as things stand, there's a salary cap in place on the premiership (rugby). I think that may have to change under the new agreement with England, though, as squads will, imo, need to be larger.
