Hi Guys,
Just wondering what your thoughts were on whats the best software for burning dvd's etc.
Thought about getting Roxio 10 but i have heard some poor things about it,
your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Looked at that do you have Nero 8, is it good at converting avi to dvd and also my home movies to dvd.

Malc

I use 7.10.1.0, I downloaded 8 but was happy with 7 so havn't got round to putting it on.

I convert AVI to VOB files using a little programme called DVD santa, fast easy and reliable, here or you can buy full version for about a fiver.

Thanks Malc will check it out ;)

kinmel

have a look at the trial version of Videoredo Suite, it is far better for editing, converting and burning Video.

Hi Cammara, and  :welc:

Personally, I would avoid Roxio, as it's a HUGE suite and will completely invade your computer.  Nero isn't so bad, but some of the free ones do just as well, if you just want basic burning software.  I have heard good reports about DeepBurner, which comes in Free and Pro versions, but I haven't used it myself.  :)

I use Nero (have done since version 3) and find it great and simple to use.

Another Nero user here, though it's not really aimed at the conversion side of things (it can do it, but it's not its strong point).

I always used to use Nero, but eventually I got put off by its ever-increasing size.

For months, I've been using the free DeepBurner, which I originally read about in a computer magazine. It's quite basic compared with Nero, but actually I've found it does everything I ever want to do.

Rik

Nero bloat is getting bad, it's why I didn't move to v8. Why don't software houses understand that we don't want our machines taken over just to do a simple job??

I don't know, Rik. IIRC, the Nero 8 installation file is not far off 200MB! I know it's pretty advanced, but it comes with so many applications other than the Burning ROM that surely most people don't want.

Rik

I agree completely - and Nero loves to take over file associations it shouldn't be going near. They would do themselves and us a favour if they released a Lite version with just the burning functions, imo.

I believe there's an unofficial Nero version (IIRC called "Nero Lite" or "Nero Micro") that makes for a far small installation file by getting rid of the nonsense.

Ah, sorry, getting sleepy.  :o

I believe this is the "official" site. AfterDawn.com also have it to download (and lots of older versions).

AFAIK, it's literally the original file modified, so it works exactly like the normal Nero installer (e.g. with the license key).

I had Nero for a number of years, though it is not often I need to burn.  The last time I tried the system rebooted.  This happened then every time I put a DVD in the writer. Eventually I found that removing Nero cured the problem.  However whenever I reloaded Nero the fault came back. Most odd! Never did bottom it.

Well, have used Nero for years was always ok but found a link in a magazine a while back for Ashampoo Burning Studio 2008  full version for free so got it and its very good. So may ditch Nero.

I don't know which of these posts are directed at me.  I will just say now it is not a penguin, perhaps if you change it to a cow or a sheep it will correct the wrong part! :conf:

The graphic varies at random. Which part do you think is wrong?

Back to topic, I would also recommend Ashampoo Burning Studio, which I have on my laptop, and is one of the few that will burn FLAC files.

The answer to that is in my last post. admittedly a little obscure. Tell you what I will give a Karma to the first correct answer. I am so generous, as long as it costs me nowt!
