In April 2005 I bought a new Dell 19" LCD monitor which is now used on a spare PC.

The picture looked a bit blurred at the weekend, so I emailed Dell Support yesterday to ask if there was anything I could do to improve it.

Got an email back within the hour asking for the serial number, which I supplied to them.

Instant reply to that from Dell saying a replacement would arrive today for a swap out.

It just arrived; a brand new, still in it's packaging, 19" LCD and the courier boxed up the 3 year old one and took it with him.

Absolutely brilliant customer service, done and dusted in 25 hours.

What is the date of the referendum for England to become an independent country ?

It's always good to know who delivers on customer service as well as who does not. Thanks for posting. :)

I have now dug out the original invoice for the monitor, it appears that I paid a full £7.00 for a 3 year next working day warranty.

Do you think I got good value from it ?

It's debatable, you know. After all, you did have to send a couple of emails...  ;)

Does the new screen come with another 3 year warranty?

Great service!

I had similar service from LG last year. I had an 17 flat CRT monitor from them, but after 2 years and 11 months it developed a fault (blue tinge). As it was within the 3 year warrenty, an engineer came out at a time convinient to me the following week, tested it and swapped it for a much nicer 17 inch TFT. That was a result!

If only  ;D

No, you have the remainder of the existing warranty, 27 days in my case.

It would be nice if they gave new warranties, wouldn't it. ;)

Broadback

I have always understood that legally if you have a replacement under warranty then the warranty starts again.  I have an LG monitor, part of a Evesham (R.I.P.) system I bought a few years back.  soon after purchasing the monitor broke. Evesham sent me a replacement next day, however it obviously was not new, in fact in places quite grubby.  I immediately rejected it and asked for a new replacement.  Evesham claimed that was not part of the contract, however I soon showed them the error of their ways and got a new one, which is still fine!
Nothing is perfect, not even my ignorance!

I don't think that's true. A warranty starts from the purchase date of the original item. If it was constantly renewed it could, in effect, become infinite. Under the Sale of Goods Act, liability only extends for a maximum of six years, and then on a sliding scale, ie compensation reduces as the product gets older.
