I just joined the network and I have just run my first bt speed test how does it look?

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6170 kbps

anythoughts would be appriciated.

Welcome I joined yesterday I do not get those figures as yet, but do far pleased with what I did get but that speed rocks.

Profile is correct for the sync speed (I'm jealous), throughput is a bit low, what do you have MTU set to in Windows and the router?

I changed the MTU to 1500 it was set to 1492 ya I thought the through put was low too

The throughput looks a bit low. It could be an MTU/RWIN issue, or perhaps exchange congestion.

Try the ping test. RWIN is also important, but get the MTU right first and see if it makes a difference.

Well I have played around with the settings a little I found my ideal MTU to be 1462 so have changed that now. I'll run another BT speed test in a couple of hours once I can again and post them up

Just out of interest, did you get 1462 from the ping test? When you change the setting in Windows (perhaps with DrTCP) you need to add 28, so yours will be 1490. If you've already done this, ignore me.

Also, as Lance says, make sure the MTU is 1500 in the router. If it wasn't 1500 when you did the ping test in Windows, you need to change it and do the ping test again!

Right I did the ping test and set the MTU to 1462 in windows I havnt added 28 to it in DRtcp but I will now. Yes the MTU is set to 1500 on the router

TBH I have not touched the RWIN as I'm a little unsure of what to do and i didnt want to mess with it. However I would like too heh

If you take a note of the existing value, you can always return to it.

Personally, I prefer TCP Optimzer to DrTCP, and the same site makes pretty good recommendations for RWIN values. Take a look at this sticky.

Right I've taken a look and it recomended this "Choose RWIN between 76680 and 203060" so I have changed it to the higher end of the scale. I'm going to reboot now and see if makes any difference.

BT speed test?

I couldnt do the BT speed test you can only do them once every 3 hours.

So I did a DSL Zone speed test and I just got my highest ever speed of 6940 Kbps which I assume is a good thing heh

Once I can do the BT test I will!
