I can vouch for 2 & 27, Noreen. GIMP is not as powerful as Photoshop, imo, but then I got Photoshop free. :)

A good read Noreen. I downloaded OpenOffice a few weeks ago and I'm still finding my way round it.
I think it's worth giving it a try and it's free. Also tried a few photo editors but like Rick I use Photoshop cos' I also got it free.  :)

Number 3.....similar to BrianM  just getting into it recently so cant comment at the moment.

others Ive changed from but are not open source AKAIK     27... Adobe Acrobat to Foxit Reader

36.....Nero to Ashampoo Burning Studio 2008     is good

44......winzip to AlZip   so easy to use and seems quicker



and one not in the list but I like to mention is    used to use WS_FTP to FireFTP add on in firefox.....very quick
