Don't really know what I'm asking here but ... here goes...
Speeding up a CD/DVD drive, I used to amend a property of the drive (somewhere) to speed things up when copying a film or something similar and for the life of me I can't remember what the command was or where it was!!!   Help please.............. :( :( :( :(

Rik

Is this for the drive you are writing to or reading from? Sony drives used to require that you press and hold the eject button after the media had been read before they would switch to full speed.

No Rik, not related to prob.
Mate next door has a dvd copier and it suggested changing a disc setting to speed things up.
Dickhead here went and clicked on the don't show this again box (don't we all?)., and now I can't remember what the command was!!

Rik

What software is it - that might draw some memories out from others.

Magic DVD copier. Opening message to speed things up.
Am going round this evening to remove his prog. and reinstall on the off chance it might throw the message up again.  I have the sinking feeling that this message only applies to 'old' disc drives which is why I can't find anything on system properies on my machine. God, my head hurts!!!  :( :(

Does this help?

Q: How to configure the settings of Magic DVD Copier?
A: Please click the button on the top and right of the main window. Then click "Config...". The configuration window will popup. Then you can adjust the options according to your need.

    * Copy Always ignore read errors - It will ignore all read errors if your DVD has been scratched.
    * Remove UOP (User Operation Prohibited) - It will remove all UOPs. So you can do any operation (such as skip to next/previous chapter, fast/back forward, etc.) when playing any section of the copied DVD.
    * Always keep DVD menu while splitting - It will always keep DVD menu on disc 2 when splitting DVD9 movie to 2 4.7 GB blank DVDs. This option is only valid when you choose "DVD9 to 2 DVD5" mode.
    * Leave at least 32k between IFO and BUP - It will add 32 KB dummy data between VIDEO_TS.IFO and VIDEO_TS.BUP if there isn't VIDEO_TS.VOB. Usually you needn't check the option.

    * Burning Burning engine - Magic DVD Copier includes two internal burning engines. And it can also use Nero burning engine if you have Nero installed. If a burning engine isn't compatible with your DVD burner, you can choose another burning engine.
    * Set write speed before burning - It will let you choose the burning speed before burning.
    * Set once then keep the speed - It will keep the burning speed you used last time.
    * Temporary directory - When coping a DVD to blank DVD, our software need copy it to the temporary directory first.
    * Clear Temporary directory when finished - It will automatically clear the temporary directory after burning. If you want to burn multi DVDs, please uncheck the option.

    * Compression Compress DVD9 to fit on a 4.7GB disc - Prompt you when copying DVD9 movie.
    * Custom target size - If the compressed movie is still large than 4.38 GB, please check the option and set a lower value like 4200. After compressed the DVD, you can uncheck the opiton to get higher quality.

    * Misc Enable sound events - It will play a sound when finished or error occured.
    * Check IDE transfer mode - Check if the DMA mode of your DVD drive is enabled automatically every time Magic DVD Copier starts.
    * Keep last copy mode - Remember the copy mode you chose last time.
    * Keep last language selection when choosing main movie - Automatically set audio and subtitle according to the language you chose last time.
    * Skin - If you want to use Windows standard interface, you can choose None here.
