Slightly off topic..but who cares..  ;D

I usually check my IDNet Account around this date each month, my payment date is the 17th ..oooops, no payment made, it then dawned on me that my payment was being made via my HSBC Charge Card, that I erm cancelled a week ago.

Nobody cut me off, no threatening emails.

I have just sent them a Direct Debit Mandate..sorted.

Brilliant company. :thumb:

Nice story, In, it's what we're all here for. I notice someone has rated IDNet over at Kitz site as good but expensive. I don't think it's expensive, I think we get what we pay for.

I was more interested that someone rated IDNet as "so so".  :o

Agreed Rik, it isn't at all expensive, it is actually less than I was paying Plusnet, and of course I get a far superior service.

Some people are unable to distinguish between a Rolls Royce and a Lada. ;)

I noticed that one. Why are they still a customer, I wonder?

Or some people want a Rolls Royce for the same price as a Lada?

I suppose to the uninitiated it does look expensvie compared to tiscali et al

Rik

True, but if someone feels its expensive, why join?

One of the great mysteries of modern life Rik - unless they were fed up of the service from the likes of tiscali, yet thought that they should get  IDNet type service at the same price?

Captain K

I suppose it comes down to people's definition of "value", ie what do you get for your money?  If you are of the mindset that at Tiscali you pay X price, and in return you get "The Internet", but at IDNet you pay X price + 50% and in return you get "The Internet", then I guess you are going to say that IDNet gives poorer value for money.

On the other hand, the more switched on realise that at IDNet for your X price + 50%, you actually get Tiscali + 10,000% in terms of reliability, speed and customer service, and therefore greater value.

I've just read this post again and apologise if its confusing - hopefully you get the drift!  :-\
Bruce.

I don't trust Camels.  Or any other creature that can go a week without a drink.

Rik

I'm drifting beautifully. ;)

I agree, the only way someone can come up with a comment like that is that they have forgotten the pain of Tiscali et al, and are now looking longingly at the price tags again.

Agreed, it easy to compare a like for like tin of beans, however an ISP provides a service, as we all know.

Anyone that reads any ISP site such as ISP Review or ThinkBroadband will very soon realise that this isn't a " like for like tin of beans " that we are talking about here.

IMO, value for money/price is not something which should be take into account with ratings, as some people will always use it as a way of complaining about cost - entirely a different matter.

Captain K

But coming at this simply, if you were new to broadband, and had viewed all the comments on the Kitz site, wouldn't you be prepared to pay a premium for the comments that IDNet get over the price charged by other ISP's who get poor comments?

Unfortunately, its herd mentality, and the TV ads attract the herd.  I think we're pretty safe from the sound of stampeding hooves here!  ;D

Rik

I would, Bruce, but some people will be swayed by the score and the word 'expensive'. OTOH, that keeps IDNet the niche, but growing, quality ISP we love. :)

Too true - a lot of people will always sign up with the names that they have heard and know. How many times have I heard "well they must be good because they are a well known name". Unfortunately, the one does not necessarily follow the other........ :(

Rik

You mean a well know name like, Northern Rock, say?

Unfortunately that is the real reason for advertising.

The classic definition:

If I tell you I'm handsome, it's advertising
If someone tells you they've heard I'm handsome, it's PR (not to mention delusional!).

Yes In. I didn't check my account this month, it's taken off my charge card on the 13th.of each month. Again, no threatening letter, no disconnection, just a  phone call from IDnet with a polite reminder about the changeover to DDebit. Filled in the online DDebit form in my IDnet account, job done. Thanks iDnet.   :thumb:
Brian

Take care of all your memories. For you cannot relive them.

Lance

When I first signed up for DD, something didn't go right and it didn't store the details properly. After two months I realised I hadn't seen the payment come through, and IDNet sent a statement for my account. One quick phone call later and all was sorted. Again, even after two months no threatening letter or disonnection.  :P
