Ok

Firstly hello all

Just moved house and used the situation to move from Parpex to IDnet

I had an activation date of the 18th but last thursday when i plugged it in to change my login details it all synced up and connected 1st time.

Cool i think , activated 4 days early. Also syncs up at 8128Kb/832Kb on my belkin.... Joy after being stuck at 2500 odd at the old house.

Didnt get chance to play much until monday after i had my IDNET mail saying the activation was complete.

Now to the questions.

  • On Monday i did the BT speed test and it showed me on a 2000 profile... when am i likely to see that start to rise. Still the same tonight. using several speed tests since last thursday i am always capped at around 2 meg
  • Every time i reboot etc i also sync right up at 8128k/832k. will that mean i get a top 7000+ profile

Does this look like a locked profile.

My router hasnt lost sync apart from reboots since i turned it on last Thursday..

any ideas

any tips

Cheers in advance

Elry

edit:

Probably help if i had read this 1st

Post that answers all sync questions

Hi Elry, and  :welc:  Have a welcome Karma!  :)

As you may have already read, I think you have to give it 3 working days before IDNet can tackle a stuck profile issue for you with BT.  Also, I'm not sure if this applies when moving house, but you may have to allow a 10 day 'training' period for the BT software to stabilise your line and connection speed.  It may depend on whether Max was previously enabled on the line, but someone more technically adept than me will be along later to confirm this.  :)

This is a very common issue. When you migrate from a fixed-rate product (you were on 2Mb) to Max, the IP or bRAS profile gets stuck at the old speed. The good news is that this will clear in 3-5 days, and you should find it is 7150. This is nothing to do with IDNet or any other ISP; it's BT's systems, but it will clear. If it doesn't (unlikely) tell IDNet and they will get BT to manually reset it.

Yes indeed (after the profile clears, as mentioned above). One word of warning: don't reboot the router too much; if possible, just leave it connected 24/7. If you reboot it a lot, the telephone exchange may thing your line is unstable. It responds to this by increasing a variable called the target SNRM (Signal-to-Noise Ratio Margin), which has the effect of causing you to sync at a lower rate. A reboot every so often is no issue, but just don't do lots in a row. :)

If you have any more questions, just let me know. And once again, welcome. ;D

Elryrith

Its only been rebooted when the good lady wife decided that the place it was originally didnt go with the curtains...... ::)

Even on just the 2000 profile it already seems far quicker than Pipex has been for years..

Think my best bet is to leave it for a week and then chase it next Monday... I can feel a day working from home coming on ;)

Hi Elry

If a profile sticks for more than 5 days, give IDNet a call and they can get BT to do something about it. Sadly, stuck 2000 profiles are still common on migrations. :(
