There I was replying to a message and my PPP session had dropped (sync hadn't dropped)! Anyone else?

Mine did, dsl didn't loose sync here either.

Perhaps I should've mentioned I'm on gw5. It's no big deal; just wondering if it was me or others as well. :)

Yes, me too, Seb.  Noticed the router lights flicking every one second for a minute or two, then the connection dropped.

It was a cunning plan to get new members joining the forum!  :welc:  Vorbei, have a Karma!

Mine too!

I was freaking out. I was unable to connect for about 15 minutes. I was trying test login details and was on the phone to RBS to make sure the IDNet bill had been paid.

I broke my PCMCIA datacard yesterday (dropped the laptop and it snapped) so I'm without a backup. :-(.

Why, thank you!

I always panic when I see the connection drop (because it never happens!). Thankfully it was just the PPP session and not the sync.  :)

I think I'd prefer the sync to drop because them you know who to blame whereas a PPP problem could be BT/IDNet/Router problem.

Sebby

No way! I have a pretty solid sync, so the thought of a line issue scares me. I'd much rather IDNet unplugged something by accident.

Yeah I suppose, maybe. I'm rock solid at 8128 with a 13dB margin.

Out of interest, if I was the only person to lose the PPP session and couldn't get it to re-estabilish, what is IDNet's out of hours policy?

Sebby

I'm not certain. I think you might have to wait until the morning (as you wouldn't be able to send an email, which sometimes get read out of hours). :)

Got to bed and wait till the morning!  ;D

Actually, I think there is an emergency number, but I'm not sure where to find it - Rik, or one of the others, will tell you later, I'm sure.  :)

Email I could've managed - iPhone on o2 edge!! I don't think you can hook it up as a modem tho which is a pain as it does offer unlimited data albeit not nearly as fast as the datacard. On tmobile I get around 1.1mbit throughput (1.8mbit max).

Bed could not happen today as I'm doing a lot of work at the moment so I'd be a nip out in the car to a hotspot or a friend's house :-P.

If you could drop then an email, it would certainly get sorted first thing. You couldn't say that for most - if not all - other ISPs.

Very true. Couldn't say that for any!

Perhaps BT Business and AOL? as I know they do operate support 24/7 but of course then you've got to wait for BTW.

Good idea!  ;)      :night:

Captain K

Happened to me too, no loss of sync either.  Out for about 2 minutes.

Thought it might be BT giving my profile a kick - obviously not!  :'(

Damn I was playing and lost con so switched to netgear it was the connection in general then not my router, typical im on gw5 are the ones that lost contact also on this? I see Seb was on same gw5 as me :(

Ann

Me too.  I'm gw5 too.  I've had a helluva evening with my TV on computer going nuts.. after doing the reinstalling everything game and getting the BSD once or twice, I realised it was the powered USB hub that was failing so kicked that into touch, then the router seemingly goes down and I'm thinking "not something else".  Actually I said different from that but it's too blue to write.  So I'm glad that one wasn't down to me.  :phew:
