Just bought a AMD Athlon 64 3800+, with 1 gig of DDR 400 ram.

Thats all the specs you need(well the DVD burner and HD are non essential info)

I plan on buying a graphics card for £70-£80

All I want to play is CS:Source WOW, MOH Breakthough, COD United Offensive, and Quake 3

Maybe overkill but better than my old 2.68 Celeron, with 768 of 133mhz ram and a Radeon 9550 256mb!

Oh and I need a PCI Express card, I would of been happy with my old one but its AGP sigh.

7600gs
check for reviews on all the different manufacturers as there can be a slight difference between them

erm, hmmm, is that the highest you can go?

For that price your proberbly best of with a Nvidia 7600 series or a ATI X1600 series card.

EDIT: Grr apoc, beat me to it!

muahahahahaa

if you can push a bit higher, the best mid range card is 7600gt

I would get the 7600gt, not that much more than the gs but a lot faster and at least has GDDR3 memory.

7600gt - £74.99+VAT
7600gs - £61.99+VAT

migration complete - sync 5mb 500k - stable low ping times

Where can I get the 7600gt for that price? at a push I could do £80, or £90 if I eat basics for a few days.

Cheapest I have seen them online is £100

;) The store had them on a offer a few weeks ago but they've kept the offer price on the website :)

I was thinking of getting one to keep me going until the geforce 8xxx(dx10) series is released  ;D

when is DX10 released? is it still Vista only?

mrapoc

dx10 = no point until vista = could be delayed = if they do come out no point in dx10 capabilities = dx10 will only work with vista = vista might be delayed = you kinda get the point  :P

When vista is first released watch it crumble and burn....it will be a hackers heaven!

OpenGL for the win tbh! :P

Not sure about vista being any good, but I would guess hackers will try. Seems like microsoft's version of Mac OSX tbh ::)

I might be getting vista beta tomorrow. I know someone who has it so will probably just copy it to DVD to save me using 2.2gb of download on my connection :o

Right loads of good news!

I bought a 7600Gt 256mb, a gig more ram(so I now have 2 gig) and a second DVD burner for my PC.

So now I have a good build!

And more good news! my old Tiscali marker is off my phone line, so today I ordered IDnet(I paid the fee of £47 worth it to be rid of Tiscali!)

My new graphics card, dvdburner and ram were posted today, so by this time next week I will be very happy!
