Beyond me  :D

BT speed test results:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1000 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  1152 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 912 kbps

Rik

Well, your line really should be capable of much higher speeds. Maybe get Jack to read the FAQ on line optimisation? http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=1904.msg31528#msg31528

It appears OK at the moment, will try and get him to read it!

Rik

I really would expect you to be able to get 5Mbps or better, Jill, I've seen people get the full 8128 sync on 48db attenuation.

Jack only complains while he is playing his game, other son said the speed is **** and says it's the ISP! no winning with him  :)

Should that not read; Jill's lack of speed ?? :hide:
Anything and everything that I post on here is purely my opinion, it ain't going to change the world, you are under no obligation to agree with me, it is purely my expressed opinion.

Rik

Well, if I had put Jill's temperature, it wouldn't have indicated hot or cold. :)

I didn't use 'lack of' because I don't know what the problem is yet.  ;)

Rik

It's not the ISP, Jill, it's your connection to the exchange, which is what we need to look at.

Rik

Possibly BT, Jill, but first we need to eliminate anything in your local wiring.

Nobody here would have a clue!

Rik

Well, try reading through the FAQ that I linked, and see what you can achieve. In particular, removing the ring wire and eliminating any flat extension cables is an essential starting point. You could get IDNet to investigate, but if they send BT out and the engineer finds a fault with your internal wiring, you face a bill of £160+.

This is certainly not IDNet, Jill. ;)

OK will have to work with Jack on this one, when we are both here and not working!

J!ll

Not long been home, and no I haven't tried anything yet!

ADSL Link     Downstream     Upstream
Connection Speed    1152 kbps    448 kbps
Line Attenuation    44 db    15.5 db
Noise Margin    10 db    18 db

A little better  :)

I don't have one http://www.adslnation.com/products/xte2005.php

Rik

They're identical to the results you posted earlier, Jill. (Reply #23)

Oh dear I am tired  :( I don't understand as everything is moving very quickly!

Rik

So, your connection speed has not changed, but your perceived speed seems better? No sons using the connection perhaps?

Both sons out!

Rik

That's all perfect, Jill - except that you really should be getting a far higher sync, 4-5Mb faster.

I do remember posting my speeds ages ago, if you have time maybe you could look?

Up at 6am tomorrow, work  :'(

Rik

I'd need a bit of a clue, Jill, there's been a lot of posts recently, so some specific text from the message would be needed to use the search facility. The only way would be to examine all your posts and, tbh, I am not in a position to do that given the activity levels in the forum. Sorry. :(

Yes of course, take your point, will take a look when I'm not working  :'(

:stars:  :bed:

Sebby

Just a thought but isn't 1,152k the rate at which the fixed 1Mb service connects at? It could be coincidence, or I could be completely off the mark, but is this actually a max service, Jill?

Lance

We;ve asked Jill and she said is was the 8mb service. Her noise margin would seem to back this up as well.
