Watch his hands....

Dirty minds. >:D

You might learn something, then you can do it yourself next time and save some cash.

J!ll

  I will be watching him  :P

Sebby

I hope you get the result we all want, Jill. Fingers crossed!  :fingers: :)

J!ll

Came at 11.20am (booked for between 1-6pm) he has just left

ADSL Link     Downstream     Upstream
Connection Speed    3840 kbps    448 kbps
Line Attenuation    45 db    15 db
Noise Margin    10 db    20 db

Corroded wiring up the street, changed me over to a spare line.

Rik

That sounds like a result, Jill. Congratulations. :)

Have you let James know?

Your profile will take a few days to recover, of course, but you should then be looking at a profile of 3000kbps.

The engineer said IDNet would have his report tomorrow? should I e-mail them?

Nice young man, only had a couple of drinks, on the road most of the time looking for the fault. He hadn't seen that type of face plate before, said he would have fitted one cheaper! Said my wiring was OK, and not to bother with special shielded cables, it was just a con. Most of the time it's the wiring outside of the house that's to blame.

Malc

Glad your internal wiring is ok Jill  ;)

Rik

It would be nice to let them know their efforts paid off, Jill.

Solwise or Clarity are probably the plates he was thinking of, it's personal preference really. :)

I've never heard a BT engineer admit to the faults generally being theirs - I hope you recorded that for posterity!!

He said it was fine! even my 5 meter lead to the router was OK. Liked the tests he could do on his laptop, and his oscillator  ;)   ;D

He arrived in a Openreach van, said BT don't talk to them? he couldn't tell me if there would be a charge  ???

OK will mail IDNet now.

Rik

It's all got very fragmented since the split. Openreach do the job for BT Wholesale, who carry it out for IDNet. In this case, with the fault in the network, there's no way they can charge.

Not even for a call out?

I showed him some wires that I thought may be causing a problem, he said all intact and left them!  :D

Not if the fault is their side, Jill. Attending your house to fix a network problem is part of the job.

J!ll

Yes!  ;D

James has just replied, he's pleased with my results.

Rik

It shows how many hoops ISPs have to jump through to ensure customers don't get hit with a BT charge, and how many hopps they have to put customers through as a result. It's not the best way to be doing things.

J!ll

Yes it's not ideal, but at least they did the necessary checks before getting an engineer to come out, if that had been any other ISP god knows what would have happened, that's if you could  get through on the phone  :D

Rik

That's the bottom line, Jill. IDNet look after you. It looks like the faceplate was unnecessary, but it's no bad thing to have regularised the wiring, you know you'll get the most from the line now.

J!ll

Yes that's what he said, it was good! It really makes me cross that the wiring was in such a bad state! what am I paying for? I had checked my phone on the net with BT, they said there were no faults. It just shows you, you need an engineer! He explained that I was the only one out of 20 that he'd been to with a problem that was not my fault! also liked the way I worked with my screwdriver  :P
