Will tonights work affect all ISP's or just IDnet?

Rik

AFAIK, all, Paul. It's work on BT routers and fibre, so I'm guessing that sync won't drop but PPP will, hence the stale session warning.

BT engineering work, Ted, likely to cause an hour of downtime between midnight and 6am. Possibility of stale sessions, so you might want to give your router the night off.

well it works hard and never has a day off.....bit like someone in a trainer factory in Indonesia :rant2: So I thought I should set an example to other routers in my area and let it have the night off  ;) So by doing that the work would not have happened of course  ::)

Well my PPoA was down for 64mins last night.. Logs didnt show nothing thou.

I had to reboot my router this morning, but I got a bonus from it, an extra 100kbs in connection rate, not enough to raise my profile though.

I wonder if this is work which only affected some parts of the BT network. I also gave my router the night off, so all I can say is I gained some speed this morning. :)

I think you could be right, Rik, nothing appears to have happened here, nothing in the logs and my DSL and Internet uptime are showing 18 days.  :)

Noreen

I left my router on as usual and this morning it says that it's been connected for 104 hours and there's nothing in the logs for last night/this morning.

Rik

Well, we know something happened, Noreen, but so far BT seem to have targeted only Paul. Now, he's had a previous overnight drop with the rolling programme, so I wonder if the two events are linked?

Is it anything to do with Geographical location? Here in Hoobland (or Yorkshire as the rest of the country calls it  ;)) nothing seems to have happened at all. Or does that mean that nasty old BT simply forgot about us?

Wouldn't be the first time, or it could just be the ongoing maintenance programme that runs until the 20th. That was supposed to bring a 20 minute downtime, but reports have all been of much shorter outages.

Gary

Mystery to support, think I had Miriam, I'm always so impressed with how fast they come up with answers even if they are not pointing at anything much, seems its probably BT again forcing PPP down doing work but not letting people know where and when, as my exchange was not listed for work, but if its only small amounts BT wont tell anyone anyway ::) Its great to have IDNet there giving you answers in real time with no scripts, I'm always amazed at how efficient they are, even after being with IDNet for almost 5 months ;D ;D

I joined in October last year Rik, seems longer to me as well, time flies when you dont have to moan 24/7 about bad connections and email grief and everyone in India being called Nigel telling you, its because you have dialup sir when you had Orange BB, which was rather like dialup I suppose >:D

i had the same, session went down at 12.10 am so i went to bed back on now .

Noreen

So if we didn't get the BT work done as promised, does that mean that we still have it to come "sometime"?

Rik

Not necessarily, Noreen. Your exchange may have been done last year, or it may not affect your particular VP or even DSLAM. As BT have been coy about what it is they are doing, exactly, we just don't know. Of course, they still have a couple of weeks to get to you too. :)

Indeed, as Miriam said unless its having a really adverse effect on you BT would not do a lot anyway, and in this case probably can't, lets just hope it keeps us vaguely up with the rest of the world, now if they only took notice of the Japanese....

No Rik, I was at the computer at the time I notice if the lights flash on it, as its so quick since I was just defraging I would not have noticed the issue on line but since the new router dsl light goes out when you lose sync you notice its really obvious :(

IDNet should see any disconnections, however short. Maybe BT are doing something weird that stops IDNet seeing the drop, but leaves you with one. :(
