Yep Rik.
I'm going to do a deep NOD32 scan, deep ad aware scan and throw in an sfc /scannow for good measure.
Following this I'm going to transfer some 2000 odd piccies in 1 folder to a dvd.
Note, this 'puter belongs to 'er indoors.
Further note, I can find no maximum no. of pix per folder regarding winxp, (this was a stab in the dark earlier).
If this doesn't work I'm in for some serious head scratching !!!!

I take it you've done the usual thing of clearing temporary internet files, checking for free disk space etc?

Yep, she does cleaning daily & I run O&O defrag weekly for her.

Nite Rik and thanks.

Odd one this, I can't think what else could be going on, but I'll bet it's blindingly obvious once you know. :( Have you tried a different browser?

Nite.  :bed:

Mytheroo

might it be trying to find network folders or something so it can give a complete list of places to save to?
There are 10 kinds of people, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Good thought, Myth. :) Or possibly spinning up external USB HDs.

Working fine after the above actions.
I suspect 2000+ pics in 1 folder was the cause of the prob.  Still, pute has had a good clean up.
My thanks to all responders.

Rik

2000+ is a definite suspect. Best to keep folders down to 100 or so if you can.
