Hi all,

Lately i've been thinking of doing the unspeakable ....

... migrating away from idnet to another isp  :sigh:

The isp i have in question is: TitanADSL http://www.titan-adsl.co.uk

Before i decide what to do i would ask anyone on here whether they think i will be making a wise move, either it be from previous titan customers or current subscribers. It's only a 1 month contract as with idnet but the package is £5 cheaper. Only reason i'm considering it is their 30gb max home allowance package has  300gb off peak download limit.

I'm sure rik et all will an opinion.

Hit me with it guys.. (and lasses also - sorry Jill )

Rik

No opinion, Andy, I don't know the company and have never heard reports of them. I'm guessing an Enta reseller though? If so, expect slow evening speeds.

Hi Andy. Can't say I've heard of them, but I imagine there are quite a few I haven't!

You have to remember that IDNet charge what they do, so they can provide the service they do. When a company starts charging a less, and promising a lot more, my instinct would be telling me that they are having to cut corners somewhere!

You may be better of asking the question over at ThinkBroadband, as I'm sure there will be more people there who are either with them, or have been.

If you do move, come back here and let us know how you get on! Good luck!!!   :)

Is that a common occurence with enta resellers (i.e slow evening speeds)? because that's when i download mainly due to my work hours.

Lance

I believe it is, Andy - but couldn't say for sure.

Your guess is right, Rik, they are. There is a few references to Enta in their FAQ.

WOW! - that's 2 people who haven't heard of them in the past 5 mins.
I picked them up on www.ispreview.co.uk (that's where i found your good selves as well as my my previous isp (fast.co.uk)).

They seem to have a good rating as being no. 4 in the top 10 list (yourselves at 9).

Again, all opinions greatly received.

I know nothing about Titan ADSL at all, but after a quick look at their prices, all I can say is you get what you pay for. Their support forum seems to be offline which is a bit worrying. Give their support a call/email and see how quickly they answer/respond.

Ultimately though the choice is yours, I know what I'd do Andy :thumb:

At that price and allowance as well, you will probably get a lot of the mega downloaders going there too and find the service will get clogged up very quickly

Malc

I remember you use p2p, I can't see any mention of it either blocking or not, but you may want to take the following into account

3.3 Unless otherwise terminated or suspended in accordance with this Agreement or amended in the contract of supply, the following Services shall be provided for a Minimum Service Period of 12 months from the date of activation

I think it's a conspiracy and you all don't want me to leave

Lance

It says on the front page no port blocking or traffic shaping...

care to elaborate?

Lance

point 3.2...

Quote
3.2 Subject to Clause 3.3 or where otherwise specified in the Specific Terms and Conditions, and except where terminated or suspended in accordance with this Agreement, the Services will be provided for a Minimum Service Period of 30 days from the date of activation

3.3 relates only to leased lines or SDSL! Therefore it is only a one month contract for normal adsl.

If you find when you get there that they do port block or traffic shape, it appears you're in a 12 month contract.

At the end of the day I gain nothing from this, we're just answering your request for an opinion, and of course the choice is yours.

But, I had 12 months in a contract with pipex, and it was hell.

I'm happily corrected.

As I said, the choice is yours.

I think it's because a lot of us here realise you get what you pay for, often after a 12 month stinct with another ISP!

;D

If you are leaving to save £5 then that is your choice, at the end of the day though without wanting to sound nasty, I have no interest in whether you stay or go. If you do leave I will wish you well with your new ISP, but if you want my opinion, even though I have had no experience with Titan, then I would say stay put.

I wasn't asking for your interest in whether i stay or go as i don't pay the monthly fee to you - i was asking  for some advice as to whether this would be a good/bad move. I take your opinion aboard and have now decided to stay put.

Perhaps in future you could be a bit more light hearted in your responses !

I know, but I was pointing out that it has nothing to do with me what you do and I apologise if my replies appeared offhand, they were not meant to be  :sry:

Anyway, as you have taken my opinion on board could you please have a word with my wife, she never agrees with my opinion

Glad you are staying Andy  :banana2: :banana2: :banana2:

Malc

Also pleased you're staying as well, better the devil you know, and all that  :thumb:
