I have lost my connection on several occasions today.  These dropped connections have only really started in the last couple of days.  Although I have not yet completed the 10 training period (joined on 3rd March) was wondering if anybody else was having problems with there connections?

Have listed logs and statistics below:

Any ideas please.

It's unusual for an unstable connection to appear towards the end of the 10 day training period, WW, but I suppose it's possible.  I presume you haven't added any new extensions, or changed any wiring which could account for it?  One of the techies will be along soon, so please bear with us, and perhaps check back a bit later?

Wierd - my connection just dropped for a couple of minutes as well, a week after migrating... >:(

No, I'm much better after those tablets thanks ;D

In your case, Splat, I think you have instability on the line, see the other thread. Incidentally, after posting there, I noticed that you are running the router from a flat extension lead. Get rid of that, it's certainly part of the problem.

I have lost my connection on several occasions today.

Hi WW

You don't appear to be losing sync at all, have you noticed the ADSL light on the router flashing during these drops?

Assuming there is no loss of sync, then I would suggest talking to support, as the problem is not one we will be able to diagnose, they'll need to take a look at the line for you.

 :thnks:

Connection has held for the last 14 hours but if it continues to drop will contact support about the matter.

dlorde

Yes, I've had a few very short disconnections (a minute or less) since I started with IDNet 3 days ago. I never had this kind of thing before (several years). By the time I realize I'm disconnected, log in to the modem, check the logs, and try to reconnect, the reconnect is successful.

Sounds like an IDNet problem. If it continues I'll report it when I ask them to unstick my profile.

Mytheroo

dlorde, losing sync or the PPP session?

Rik

If it's only affecting new migrants, I'd be wondering if it's something BT hasn't done during the changeover. I know of at least one case today where they made a mistake in the routing process. That said, when you speak of disconnections, are you talking of a loss of synch, or the PPP session as WW is seeing?

Or what Myth just said. :)

Rik

Can you explain to me what is the difference between loss of sync and PPP session?

As you know my knowledge on these things is limited to say the least!  Sync has now gone up to 4500 download and no problems for over 18 hours now (that no doubt has put the mockers on it)  ;)

Thanks

Rik

Hi WW

Sync is the connection between you and the equipment at the exchange (a DSLAM). It's the most common type of lost connection, often caused by electrical or radio frequency noise obscuring the signal.

PPP is the protocol by which you talk to IDNet and the web beyond. There's a Wiki article here, but you don't need to know about it in detail. Suffice to say that if it's PPP dropping, your connection isn't the issue, but something on the journey from your exchange to IDNet, eg a faulty BT router.

Does that help?

Losing the PPP session for short periods.

Rik

Best to talk to IDNet, then, so that they can look at your line.

I've started experiencing dropped PPP sessions in the last few days too. Not frequent, once every day or so, but this has never happened before. What with wildly fluctuating speeds too, something must be going on.

I just wanted to say

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
All the world's waiting for you,
and the power you possess.

In your satin tights,
Fighting for your rights
And the old Red, White and Blue.

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
Now the world is ready for you,
and the wonders you can do.

Make a hawk a dove,
Stop a war with love,
Make a liar tell the truth.

Wonder Woman,
Get us out from under, Wonder Woman.
All our hopes are pinned on you.
And the magic that you do.

Stop a bullet cold,
Make the Axis fall,
Change their minds, and change the world.

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
You're a wonder, Wonder Woman.

Apart from the known BT work, dropped PPP sessions are unusual. I'd advise you to check with support, as they can see what's happening, while we can only guess.

I checked with support and their stats say the line hasn't disconnected for two days, so it appears to have 'settled in'. They suggest waiting until the 10 days adjustment period is over, then if there are still problems and/or the profile hasn't improved, they can take some action.

Nice to have a support call last 2 minutes, of which 1:50 is talking to an expert  ;D
