As I am finally online and using a modem after all the fuss and stuff I want to use my router again netgear DG834G,not only have I forgotten how to set this up,(well its been a while) would I need to reset it and if I do will the password be changed?

Can I leave my modem in as I am now petrified at losing connection.have the cd disc etc but just need that idnet advise I value so greatly

The best solution, David, would be to perform a factory re-set. Power the router up (if it isn't already), then insert a paper clip into the small hole on the back panel and hold it down for 20 seconds. Release, and the router will restore itself to factory defaults, you can then set it up using the instructions here. The router should detect the connection type automatically, btw.

I'll move this over to help, so that more people see it.

As Rik says, a factory reset is a good idea, just so you're certain it's got no old settings in. Then, it should just be a case of browsing to 192.168.0.1 and following the instructions.  :thumb:

Whatever you do (unless you are using USB connection to it) don't install anything from the CD. There is absolutely no need :)

That's great - after all you've been through, you deserved something to just work for you. :)
