dropped connections

Hello everybody!

I have a problem (But Alcoholics anonymous are helping  !). My connection is rock solid but only until someone uses the phone! I recently had interleaving taken off my line and its since then i've noticed it. So, does anyone think it is the actual line which has a problem or is it my filter going to die on me? I would try another filter but i only have one and don't want to buy another without needing it!

Hmmm...have you got good quality filters on all the sockets in your house Lance ? And by that I mean EVERY socket including faxes, phones sky boxes etc etc ?

good quality, unlikely - they were the free ones tiscali gave out when you signed up.

I'd bet on it being that your filters are not up to much. I assume they're one-piece rather than joined with a cable in the middle.
I had a similar problem and cured it with these xf-1e's. They're not cheap, but they're about as good as you can get.

thanks nerval and scott for your replies. just an update on the situation - i think it was a duff filter - i swapped over the filters i have on my two sockets and my connection no longer seems to drop. Also my downstream margin improved from 6 to 11. I wonder what it would be with a decent filter like the ones nerval has recommended...

When I put them in, I expected miraculous improvements in my stats, but they didn't change at all..
Just that the phones worked properly and without affecting the broadband.
And with quality filters, I know that I can leave them out of the reckoning if I have any future connection problems.  From what I've read, they do sometimes improve your figures a bit, but not always.
My view was that for £7 each, it wasn't worth not having them.

obviously, i have shown that having a better filter (or at least a working filter) can improve your stats. But only as far as your line lets you! If you already have properly working filters i wouldn't expect that much of a change.

mind you, if i see my stats drop again i'm going to be replacing the filters straight away!
