Why am I not surprised?  They should be looking at economies of scale bringing prices down, instead they are just being plain greedy.

If you are into games just use a Playstation 3 for a player. Shame about prices, as sticking 50GB on a disk does sound heavenly

thats about £2500 quid by todays standards rik, scary stuff.

As far as I'm aware blueray players are backwards compatible, you should be able to play your old dvd's. (should)

Simon

BluRay players will play normal DVDs, Bob, but I am waiting for multi region versions to appear before buying one.
Simon.

It's why companies like DER and Radio Rentals existed back then, of course. :)

I have an upscaling dvd player like Simon I believe it upscales to 1080p, but getting a blue ray recorder would be great, until then I'll hold off as I don't want three players as I do a lot of recording of TV and radio shows on the recorders hard drive and just having a blue ray drive player would be a pain.

Or Rumbelows. I suppose it shows how much technology has fallen in real terms, and how much more disposable income we now have.

That's true, I remember my nans huge black and white TV, wish it was still about it was a 70's Icon. Worth money now I would think. The first colour tv we got was amazing, now we just take TV HD etc all for granted :( the "magic" has gone.
