Not sure if this has been posted already or not. Vista SP1 is now ready to download if you have plenty of bandwidth to spare.

Always one of the first things I turn off on a new machine!

I think I'll wait a while before I install this.

iirc there is going to be a further month before they put it on automatic updates.

I still preffer to have windows set up to let me approve updates manually though.

Thanks, but no thanks!  :out:

Absolutely.  Just wanted to make sure that in a brief moment of insanity I hadn't turned it on - I hadn't!

Personally, I always slipstream a service pack, and never install it over my existing installation. That way, there's no chance of things going wrong, and performance tends to be better. :)

old Bill

Just downloaded it and and so far it seems to make Vista run a lot smoother. Early days yet I will let you know how it goes.

Cookiemonster

Just a quick update! Service pack 1 which i installed last night seems to be running fine, i've had no problems as of yet and windows does seem to be more smoother and faster. I've noticed that i'm using less Ram too. Pre service pack i was using between 30-40% of my 2GB now i'm uing between 20-35%.

Rik

That's good news. Thanks for posting back. :)

That is good news. Perhaps this'll make Vista move towards the OS it should've been. :)

My laptop is running Vista and is running quite well, is it worth upgrading with the service pack ?. I am a strict believer in the rule "if it aint broke, dont fixit".

if you look at the review for SP1 though they recommend installing it talos http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/171567/ for most it will work, just like SP2 for XP its always the same FUD with any new service pack ::)

I backed up my PC on Sunday using Acronis, so I'm feeling brave and started the update. Keep your fingers crossed!  :P
