Rik, the FEC corrections shown on the 2700HGV stats page ?

I was reading were you said there is a line that shows FEC error corrections and if it remains low, then its ok to leave interleaving switched OFF, can you tell me which line it is on the stats page you are referring to ?

What for example on a daily basis would be an acceptable number of errors corrected and unacceptable number also, the former to operate continually on fastpath and the latter to accentuate the need for interleaving ?

One last thing Rik, whats the expected cut off date for the finishing of the exchange work throughout the UK by BT. I think its too much of a coincidence that Ive had such upping and downing of speeds fom a utopian 6.8MB to a trouser shatting 1.4MB whilst upgrade works are going on. Can works on exchanges that are not my own have a negative impact on mine ?

shows the error rate, the corrected blocks is the figure you want. I wouldn't like to set absolute figures on what is, or is not acceptable - if you have 2,000 errors per day, but they all occur in a one-hour period, say, then they are likely to cause you problems.

The BT work finishes today, so hopefully things will stabilise. Work elsewhere can affect you, basically anything between your master socket and the IDNet POP, see http://community.plus.net/blog/2008/02/28/how-uk-isps-are-charged-for-broadband-the-cost-of-ipstream/.

Well, that confirms you're not interleaved. You've been up for 7 days plus with <20 errors/day. I'd say that was pretty stable, James.

It goes to show how inaccurate speed tests are, James. They simulate data transfer and they only use a short test, so you can end up with wildly varying figures. Different testers also seem to give different results for different people. It's why I use a 'known good' site and a fairly hefty file plus stopwatch if I have any significant concerns.

I tend to trust the BT test most, James, iac it's the only one that BT care about.
