OK, next door neighbour gave me TFT Monitor with a fault.

It does actually work, however it switches itself off in about 3 seconds, I can then switch it on again, same thing happens.

Any idea's anyone.

Thanks. ;)

I'd have thought a PSU problem, but what do I know. :)

Certainly more than I do Rik, ;D it has a direct mains feed, so no separate PSU, not sure if that makes any difference.

Thought as much ..  ;D

It is only a cheapo thing that he got as part of PC World package, no makers name on it, he has only had it about 18 months.

I thought it would come in handy as a spare, if I could fix it.

One of the hardware specialists will probably be able to give some useful advice, In. You could also ask over on PC Pals.

I had a very similar thing with a Dell monitor that someone gave me, but I couldn't find the problem. Given the price of a repair compared with the cost of a new one, it just wasn't worth it. :(

Inactive

Thanks Seb, I am sure that you are correct, I was just living in hope someone may have a quick fix before I bin it. ;)

It's a very strange one because you can see it works; it just won't stay on! :-\

mrapoc

You could always open her up and peer inside for loose wires etc.

Better than just throwing it out  :-\

Could be sparking inside or something, making it cut out as a safety measure - now if you found a loose wire...  ???

Thanks Sam, that was to be my next move, I may even run a soldering iron over any exposed joints, i have nothing to lose.

Thanks Glenn, if it is something as complex as that, then it is going in the bin.

Cheers.

Rik

It's probably a very simple repair, In, if you can identify the fault. Know any TV engineers?

Product Number MA-982KC
Model Number    900P

But no makers name. ???

Strange - I can't get to it through IDNet, but I can through hidemyass - is IDNet blocking things, similar to the mistybear thread?

Anyway in, the question is there, but no answers have been posted, so no point looking really  :(

Rik

Not that I know of Mad.

Well something strange is going on there Rik  :(

Or is Jerry's paranoia rubbing off on me too?  :(

Inactive

Thanks guys, at least we are getting somewhere now, I looked at the one Glen mentioned, alas that looks a bit complicated, I went to the Proview Site, took a look at the manual, no help as usual.

Cheers.

Found this on the Proview site;

Company     Goodies Enterprise Limited
Address    Windsor Road, Bedford MK42 9SS

Inspiring name for a service agent, still it should " gel " I guess. ;D

Oh well. ;)

MoHux

Could be something simple In'.  If there is a switch on the TFT is it a 'push - push' toggle switch?

If so, check to see if its lock isn't holding, allowing it to fly back out/switch off!  :fingers:

Should that be the case just open up, and by-pass the switch.  ;D

Mo

Thanks Mo, the fault does seem to be switch related, however it does seem to lock on OK, it just will not stay on for much more than about 3 seconds.

I am going to take the back off of it tomorrow ( read later ), that should kill or cure it. ;D ;D
