Just connected yesterday and really only want to know if these stats are okay or if my speeds are likely to improve. I have to say that the speed, as it is, is very stable and the QoS reported by MySpeed is 99% which is a great improvement on Tiscalis 48%. I was on their Max package and though sometimes achieving download speeds in the 5-6 Mbps range it was very erratic and the norm was mostly below 1 sometimes up to 2.

Router DG834v2
   Downstream 8128 kbps
   Upstream 448 kbps
Line Attenuation   30 db  8.5 db
Noise Margin  9 db 26 db

Speed Test
Date 08/04/08 12:55:27
Speed Down 1905.03 Kbps ( 1.9 Mbps )
Speed Up 378.49 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk

Thanks........Jane

Sebby

Your stats are excellent, Jane. You're sync'ing at the highest rate possible, and your noise margin still has a good amount of room.

As for your speed, the best thing to do is a BT speed test as it's the most accurate and will also tell us your profile, so we can make sure it's correct for your sync. Warning: a lot of patience may be required to get it to work! Please post the results if and when you get them. :)

If everything looks fine but speeds are a little low, it may just be a case of some MTU/RWIN tweaking.

Rik

Hi Jane

As Sebby says, you're connecting at the highest possible speed with some headroom on the noise. If you can do a BT test, I'm pretty sure we will find that you are on a 2000 profile, which should rise to 7150 after a few days.

Here they are then

The Performance Tester is now testing Broadband connection. Your configured download throughput speed for this service is 2000 k

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1872 kbps

So does that mean I am stuck at 2000kbps?

Jane

Sebby

Yep, you're on a 2000k profile, but don't worry, this happens on all fixed-rate to max migrations. In 5 working days it should increase to 7150. If it hasn't, let IDNet know and they'll get BT to do it manually. :)

So, if you're happy with your speeds now, wait until the profile changed. ;)

Rik

Just for a few days, Jane. BT brings people in on the 2000 profile and then adjusts from there. It should take 3-5 days maximum.

That's great then. Yes I am really pleased so far and I am more than happy with my speed but just had to check it out.

Thanks for the comments. I'll wait and see what happens over the next week or so.

Cheers

I've been trying that stupid tester for days with no luck, I guess they must like you  ;D

What browser are you using, Garry. People seem to have more luck using IE than anything else. People in the SW seem to have the most problems.

Ah, now we know why you don't get such a great sync, Dean.

today's test

Speed Up 378.44 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )

Looks like the line has started to find its feet so to speak. That's more or less in accordance with what has been quoted for my line

Jill has already asked me to keep you lot in line when she's away. I am beginning to see why  ;D

Jane

Rik

Hi Jane

Have you tried a BT test? That will confirm the profile, which has clearly risen already. :)

If ya got it, flaunt it

Jane

Rik

Looking good, Jane, your line is set to go flat out. Your throughput is a bit low for the profile. That could be exchange congestion, background activity, eg email, or a need to tweak. Are your running XP?
Rik

This post reflects my own views, opinions and experience, not those of IDNet.

jane

It could be exchange congestion considering the time of day. No email unless Mailwasher was making a background check at the time.
I have Vista on this machine so no good tweaking MTUs.

Round here, Jane, it's probably better to qualify a remark like that.  >:D

I think just let your line settle is the best advice at the moment. It's doing a lot better than mine iac. ;)

I know. That's why I didn't  >:D
Seriously, I have noticed that you do have to be very careful what you say, or don't say even. Some people make up their own versions regardless.
I can do that........

and thanks again

I'm not worried. A lot better than the dreaded Tiscali whatever happens and a lot better than I would have expected for Cornwall. We don't get much of anything down here........oops! I did it again didn't I?
